Has anyone seen the new Magnum P.I. show on CBS?
Well I have and let me tell you….it’s crap. Ive got no problem with Jay Hernandez being cast as Magnum but damn this dude can not do that character justice! He doesn’t even deserve to wear the original Magnum (Tom Selleck) shirt! And the only reason they cast Higgins as a woman is so that her and Magnum could have some romantic tension. Nobody in this show is a worthy successor to their previous characters
Might post some reviews Ive done later on here on the site but just wanna hear what everyone else thinks

Of course. Christopher Reeve is to Superman, what Tom Selleck is to Thomas Magnum.
There can be no one else. Just remaster the originals and re-release them.

I watch it, and only because…
1. It’s set in Hawaii. If a show is set/filmed in Hawaii, chances are I’ll watch it. Hawaii Five-O, Lost, Dog, even short lived shows like NBC’s Hawaii and The Byrds of Paradise, I’m a sucker for.
2. It features castmembers of new Hawaii Five-O…not the greatest series either, but way more consistent, and seeing Taylor Wily show up once in a awhile is always nice.
3. New Higgins is hot. I liked Old Higgins…even though I knew him more as the dude that hosted the parade after the parade on Thanksgiving as OG Magnum came on past my bedtime as a kid, but new Higgins…dang.
I don’t hate Jay Hernandez, but yeah…he’s no Tom Selleck, and the writing is far worse than any bottom of the barrel Five-O ep given it doesn’t even have the luxury of a decent supporting cast or a constant string of well loved television actor guest stars to fall back on.
It’s carved out a decent spot for itself in the Friday night ratings though, so CBS most likely keep it around for awhile I imagine.

I only watched the first few episodes. I loved the original show and even though I enjoyed the original Higgins (it shocked me the first time I realized he was Howard Johnson in Blazing Saddles), I enjoy the new Higgins as well.
Let’s be honest, it’s difficult for anyone to follow Tom Selleck into a role. But I think the biggest issue isn’t Jay as Magnum, but the writing team for the show. The 80s and 90s just had better quality writers.

It was during The War, Burma ..

There is only one Magnum PI series, thats the original.

It seems CBS has hit a wall and are just re-doing their old shows (Hawaii Five-0, McGuyver, Magnum…etc). I knew CBS had bad writers, but now they can’t even create original characters.
