It looks like Chris Pratt might head back to the sci-fi genre, but he’ll be leaving his Walkman behind. Deadline is exclusively reporting that the Guardians of the Galaxy actor has teamed with the LEGO Batman Movie director Chris McKay on what is being referred to as a grounded science fiction epic, Ghost Draft. The goal is to be shooting by the summer. I was very happy when I read this news. Ghost Draft, to me at least, is a case of a big project coming along at the right time for both actor and director. With Pratt’s Marvel future in limbo, Cowboy Ninja Viking stalled, no word yet on his upcoming Saint adaptation, and only the third Jurassic World film in the offing, I’m really excited to see what he is going to do with this new role.
As for McKay, who had been hot in the industry after his LEGO spinoff, he was very quickly signed by Warner Bros. for a Nightwing spinoff movie, something I was particularly excited about, as Nightwing is my favorite in the Bat family (outside of the Dark Knight himself, of course). I even wondered which storyline in the Chuck Dixon run they might use. While that movie stands at the back of the line and the Matt Reeves Batman film is in limbo; however, McKay has moved on to other projects. With the recent announcement of a release date, I had hoped circling back around to Nightwing was imminent for this up-and-coming filmmaker. With this new film, that turned out not to be the case, but Ghost Draft is an exciting prospect nonetheless, and I can’t wait to see what this pairing brings us in the near future.
Are you excited about this mysterious sci-fi tent pole or would you rather another Guardians film? Let us know in the comments!
