Charlie Brown Isn’t Airing on Broadcast TV
It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and several other beloved Peanuts holiday specials will not air on broadcast TV this year as a result of a deal with Apple TV+.
First broadcast in 1966, It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown has been a staple of both Peanuts as a franchise and the holiday season for decades. However, as the result of a new exclusivity deal with Apple TV+, this year will mark the first time in over five decades that the special will not air on broadcast TV.
WTF!
The GRINCH has stolen our holiday classics.
However, according to a press release from Apple TV+, all of the Peanuts holiday specials have been licensed to an exclusive deal on the streaming service, which will apparently result in them leaving broadcast TV. Currently, It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown will be available to stream starting today, while A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and A Charlie Brown Christmas will come to the service on Nov. 18 and Dec. 4, respectively.
As we have said before;
Hurry and purchase your collection on physical media (aka DVDs).
This is insane! Even though I’ve seen the Peanuts classics tons of times watching them during the holidays on TV has become sort of a tradition. And I’m not paying for Apple TV+ just to watch some specials I’ve already seen before. Thank God for physical media! At least for however long it lasts
Don’t you know, they want a new tradition.
