I am not an EU expert by any measure. When the EU was at its height I was not buying the books or reading the comics. I think I know enough of the basics of the EU; Luke marries Mara Jade (who originally tried to kill him) and they have a son named Ben.  Han and Leia have twins, Jacen and ???;  One of which turns to the dark side.  Not sure if they turned back or not.

Anyway, my question for my EU expert friends out there; is there a point in the timeline that would be considered a split from the official timeline.  In other words, can both the EU and the Disney canon exist side by side along two different timelines and at what point in Star Wars history did the two split.  AND, what, if any, event may have been the cause of said split?

This is just for head canon, I know Disney de-canonized the EU regrettably.  But I think it could be an interesting way to view the Star Wars universe.

    No. Impossible.

The Main Storyline of the EU begins with Truce at Bakura, which starts mere hours after the end of RotJ. The Thrawn Trilogy came out first, but timeline wise it takes place 5 years after RotJ.

And don’t fall into the mind fuck of “head cannon” nonsense. Gary from Nedrotic is great, but I thoroughly disagree with him when he states that “If it’s TV and Movie, it’s cannon first.” That’s crap as far as I’m concerned. I’m of the belief that if something came first, and was embraced by a creator, it has a right to be cannonized. Falling into allowing TV and Movies to tell you what’s right and wrong can only lead to misery.

Just cuz Disney bought it, doesn’t mean they get to tell us what’s real and what isn’t, especially after their massive failures. If Disney Star Wars had been successful, then my argument could be flawed, but at this point, Mando is the only thing making them money, and all roads still lead to Jake Skywalker.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Given the chance, stand good EU content alongside Disney Star Wars, and the EU stories will outshine them every time and I would guarantee people would choose an EU story every time, because it would radiate the glory of George’s original vision.

If we use the Veil of the Force.

…what the Veil of The Force is, which is a concept that was made canon in the Star Wars Rebels animated series.

“The Veil of The Force is a mystical dimension of The Force connecting time, space, and alternate realities, kind of the ‘Quantum Realm’ of The Force,”

So we can easily have the “Truce at Bakura” timeline, at the same time as the “Thrawn Trilogy” timeline, as well as the “Dark Empire” (Dark Horse Comics) timeline.

and by definition, that means in some warped realm, the kk/disney films timeline is also possible.

Each has their place in Star Wars Canon.

As for when things fractured into different timelines, I would say at the shatter point Mace Windu saw in Anakin/Palpaltine, but not the one in Revenge of the Sith, but at the Return of the Jedi (Vader kills the Emperor).

Official Canon (George Lucas) stated the Emperor DIED on the Death Star II by Vader’s hand.

Anything that happens after this point in time I consider the fracture point in Star Wars:

    Palpaltine did die.

Palpaltine’s force-spirit escaped to Exegol (Episode IX).

    Palpaltine’s force-spirit escapes to a clone-body (Dark Empire).

Palpaltine’s body gets hit by the Millenium Falcon and floats away into space (Adult Swim-parady).

    Everything else fits in, IMO.

@Legatus_Legionis K I see what you are saying, but I hate the whole Veil of the Force stuff. Cowgirl Dave did that all so he could save Ahsoka AGAIN from a quality death she needed to have. Using such a lazy plot device, to me as a writer, is just gawd awful. From a creative stand point, I also dislike multiple timelines/realities running congruent to each other. I see it as too much of a crutch to tell bad stories in bad settings. Yes, I have used alternate realities before in writing, but it’s usually involves parts of one invading another, which is the true timeline.

I still think it would only make things worse, because I feel as though it would only entrench all of us in our positions of “this is better” rather than bringing peace and balance to the fandom.

Granted…we’re already there, but doing that would be like arming us all with pocket nukes, and we’d all happily use them ignoring Mutually Assured Destruction.

Quote: I think I know enough of the basics of the EU; Luke marries Mara Jade (who originally tried to kill him)… Correct. In fact she does kill an evil twisted dark side clone of Luke called Luuke created by DNA from his lost hand. The lost lightsaber becomes hers till she finally makes her own with a amathyst gem. Ben may inherit the blade then I dont recall what happened to it.

and they have a son named Ben… Correct. Ben Skywaker has a long career as a Jedi.

Han and Leia have twins, Jacen and ???… Jaina. (may have spelled it wrong.) At different points in the EU both actually fall to the dark side more than once. jains during the height of the Yuuzahn Vong war and again during an incident with an incet race called Killiks. She brought herself back for the love of her parents and friends. Jacen fell also during the Vong war cause he was captured and tortured for what seems like years. He came back but wasnt as fully on the path of light as the twin after that incident. He fell again cause of a darkside user called Lumiya telling him he could be stronger than Vader (or her for that matter) cause he had no cybernetics. Lastly there was a second son named Anakin. His death at the close of the Vong war sparked the Jedi victory over those extragalactic invaders.

As I have said more times than I care to count Leia nevr knew ObiWan as Ben. She has no reason to name her son this. Han thought the old man was a fool, I doubt he would even suggest the name. It on the other hand made perfect sense for Lukes son. Calling the EMO bitch Ben in 4.75 remade was nothing but an insult to anyone who knew the source material. That Krazy KK said didnt exist.

Raos always says that about canon. Disney owning the franchise means they now decide what’s canon. That was part of the contract. He can be in denial all he wants. For everybody else, don’t let your feelings blind you from reality.

Quote: So we can easily have the “Truce at Bakura” timeline, at the same time as the “Thrawn Trilogy” timeline, as well as the “Dark Empire” (Dark Horse Comics) timeline.

Those stories all coincide without stepping on eachother. They build on eachother in fact. the Dark Empire book led directly to the Jedi academy book trilogy the following year. No DE was a terrible book then just as it is now. It is not a alternate universe. It was simply a bad idea given life.

I love the EU but some of the early work is rightly panned. I never read any of the comics. I stopped reading comics before they came back after the Thrawn trilogy was successful. I had to keep my expenses down cause of a wife and stepkids. Everything starting with the Yuuzan Vong invasion was amazing. Series that lasted in some cases 20 books all tied to a single storyline that all built on the galaxy at large. Compared to the rat franchise where a skype call can teleport a necklace across the universe. FUCK THAT.

So no the rat franchise timeline does not correspond to anything in the EU. Hell the cartoons dont even correspond to the EU (except TCW03) cause Pablo the Hutt & Cowgirl Dave didnt give two fucks about anything that came before they were hired. Its not a surprise they fit so well with the Krazy KK ‘story group’ so well.

No buying a property does not give you the power to alter it.

Doing so only makes you a bitch.

    #207214

You need to go back to school and learn about buying companies Cowgirl David. This is an embarrassing look for you, and that’s saying something.

I should have figured standing up for quality Star Wars would be a dog whistle for you to wiggle on in here and start tossing shade gas lighting. No one was taking pot shots or starting anything til you joined the conversation. KevinTheStarWarsNerd wanted to talk some EU, so some of us EU guys are here to answer and give extra opinion on Disney crap, which has NOTHING to do with you.

Only reason you came into this thread was to attack me and Dragonbane cuz we continue not to bow to your point of view.

So just get back on your Disney apology train and go bug someone else in a thread unless you actually wanna take part in a REAL Star Wars discussion rather than just roll out your tired usual apologist “give it a chance, can’t be all bad” “Filoni worked with Lucas” crap, because I have no further time to waste in another pointless argument with you, and this is all the attention you get from me here.

Even if we ignore the “Veil of the Force” (even thought it is in Star Wars Rebels), the question of when things could have changed directions still IS, IMO, that moment on the Death Star II.

a split from the official timeline

Did Emperor Palpaltine die?  Did he survive?

Did Luke next met the Emperor after the Death Star on Exegol, or earlier (Dark Empire).

    etc.

This is the point the split occurred.

So even before KK/Disney, long time fans and the discussions on the original theatrical releases verses the Special Editions, I still go back to the Vader’s turning back to the Light Side/tossing Emperor down the shaft/etc, as the split point of possible outcomes.

Did we get the older Vader force ghost or a young Anakin force ghost in Return of the Jedi?

Vader (now Anakin once more) kills the Emperor = older force ghost.

Vader does not permanently kill the Emperor = younger force ghost.

Otherwise, why don’t we get a young Ben force ghost or a young Yoda force ghost?

I go back to the same moment where the change took place.

Balance to the force restored, the chosen one prophecy fulfilled, the Emperor is dead.

    Or… we get the alternative.

Why so defensive bro? You sound like Brie Larson saying “is that a personal attack” line. If you reread what I said, I wasn’t talking to you, I was talking to others reading the thread. I have no interest in a conversation either. But telling everyone with a different opinion than you to go away shows your SJW tendencies yet again. And here I thought you were against that. Silly me I guess, giving you too much credit.

How many Disney Star Wars threads have you gone to saying it’s all garbage. Have I ever told you once that this discussion is for REAL fans only and you should leave?

    #207286

Oh fuck off bootlicker. Go piss on soiboi and call it rain.

    #207287

Even if we ignore the “Veil of the Force”…

Believe me I do. That is just Dowgirl Dave Felony being unable to kill his pet SJW bitch.

As for Young Anakin force ghost… Always thought that was one of the dumbest changes in the SE films. Almost as bad as changing “I thought they smelled bad on the outside’. Or Greedo shooting at all.

It amazes me that Cowgirl David makes fun of left wingers in the political threads, and then goes and cries about people having different opinions here. You do realize you’re doing exactly what you say you hate right? Don’t worry, we can all see that you’re old, fat, and single. If you need to take all your anger out on a random guy on a forum, I’ll be the bigger man and let you. I’m sure someone will love you eventually.
