‘Activist athlete’ Gwen Berry says she felt ‘set-up’ when she turned her back to the US flag during the national anthem at Olympic trials

Gwen Berry, a 31-year-old Olympic hammer thrower, pivoted away from the U.S flag while the national anthem was playing at the track and field trials in Oregon on Saturday, according to reports.

While standing on the podium to receive a bronze medal during the U.S. Olympic track and field trials, the anthem started to play prompting Berry to turn away facing the stands.

Like many have said, WTF? ! ?

“I feel like it was set up. I feel like they did that on purpose, and I was pissed, to be honest,” Berry said, the Washington Post reported. “I was thinking about what should I do. Eventually, I just stayed there and just swayed. I put my shirt over my head. It was real disrespectful. I know they did that on purpose, but it’ll be all right. I see what’s up.”

You are the one who acted REALLY DISRESPECTFUL!

“The national anthem was scheduled to play at 5:20 p.m. today. We didn’t wait until the athletes were on the podium for the hammer throw awards,” a spokesperson USA Track and Field representative told the AP. “The national anthem is played every day according to a previously published schedule.”

Set up?  It was scheduled to be played at that time, everyday.

“I don’t need to do anything sport-wise,” she said, according to the AP. “What I need to do is speak for my community, to represent my community, and to help my community. Because that’s more important than sports.”

Then please, QUIT sports, and QUIT representing your country.

Berry said. “But I don’t really want to talk about the anthem because that’s not important. The anthem doesn’t speak for me. It never has.”

Let someone who RESPECTS the Flag and the NATIONAL ANTHEM to represent the country you so hate.

    Problem SOLVED.

she’s a clown, but like her there are thousands more. they’ll do anything for self promotion. they think they’re heroes doing this kind of stuff. but it’s the opposite.

Agreed.  They are self entitled narcissist.

If IT will not want to proudly represent her nation, the USA, then IT should be declared ineligible to represent the USA.

I am almost surprised IT did not STOMP on the flowers in a moment of woke temper tantrum for not being awarded gold just because IT is a anti-american activist.

Nothing is as disingenuous as benefitting from a system to the point where you are a success and then railing against it (or pretending to) for your own benefit. All it is says is the only allegiance you hold is the one to yourself.

Whether it’s her, who is not really worthy of the attention, or some of these other track athletes, what the media has done is really cheapen and destroy the image of the athlete by making every single one some kind of Colin Kapernick figure. Anyone in school knows that football players and jocks are preferentially treated better than even the genius students. The pampered version of civil rights oppression symbolism is a form of idolatry. They are making false idols of jocks with bad moral character and just using it as a racial wedge issue. Sports have been ruined by corporate political pandering. I don’t really care for the Olympics, NFL, NBA or soccer or anything anymore because they are now puppet slaves to try to brainwash and mentally bully the masses. I cut the chord. I listen to Jeremy, Ryan and them and will get news that way, but I have zero respect for the athlete. For example, what would take real courage today? It would be someone who came out against lockdowns and vaccines, since these things affect everyone’s freedom. Instead, you get a cheap selfish substitute over a flag, an anthem or weed. Such weak jocks. No real character in them for the people.

I would love nothing more than to see her medal stripped from her and have her barred from participation in the future.
She did it on purpose, no doubt about it, then Lied as shown by USATF.
That was disrespectful to U.S. Track and Field, other Athletes, Fans, The Nation and is Unsportsmanlike conduct.

When you hate your country, but love the attention and fame and sponsorships it brings…

…as some politicians have been saying, if you do not want to represent your nation and honour its people, the flag, and the anthem, then you should NOT be getting funding to train nor be allow to represent said nation.

But no.  This attention whore had to take the spotlight away from two female athletes that did better than her that day.

That in itself shows a lack of sportsmanship.

        That alone should disqualify you!
