I liked the first one. It was idealistic and feel good. A lot of people mentioned they liked the adoptive parents. Wishful thinking, but the sentiment of the movie was pleasant. I did not grow up with this character at all and barely ever heard it mentioned, only in jest. The thing about these characters is that you hear the old-timers talk about them and smile, so it makes you want to learn about comics. Shazam is a perfect example of why people miss old time America. Also, I’d like to hear Razorfist’s thoughts because he says to go back to pulp heroes, and Shazam is an odd one because he feels pulp even though he has the powers of the gods.
He is the alter ego of Billy Batson, a boy who, by speaking or thinking the magic word “SHAZAM!” (acronym of six “immortal elders”: Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury), can transform himself into a costumed adult with the powers of superhuman strength, speed, flight and other abilities.

So that’s why Wizard used Zues/Jupiter’s greek name and Hermes/Mercury’s roman name 😅
I loved the first Shazam! Watched it in the cinema for my birthday 😸
0:26 second mark of the first trailer, where the boy runs off the rooftop and says the word is one of the best things I’ve ever seen. The way it’s shot is right out of a comic and it conveys power and flight. Just a brief moment of pure fantasy and imagination. The bolt comes from the sky and answers his call.
Glad this got a sequel.
This is the direction MOST of the DCEU should have gone.
Fun and colorful!
(For their fun and colorful comic book characters).
I made it about 15mins into the first one before I turned it off. I thought it was dumb and not funny. I don’t think it’s because it was a bad movie, just not within my tastes. Since you guys seem to have liked it maybe I should try it again.
But I am weird like that. I turned End Game off as soon as Capt. Marvel showed up because it was so bad I could not handle it. It was clear to me that script had been written previously and they injected her into it after that. And Larson’s acting is as flat as her arse is.
It is for kids. Most of the stuff posted in entertainment are things I am not into. In fact, what brought me here, to this site, is it made me laugh to see guys ripping Hollywood to shreds. Just because I liked a scene and overall tone does not mean I’m into a movie that much. Really just one scene will get my appreciation.
Speaking of scenes, that was probably the only thing I liked about Batman V Superman was the one shot of Superman hovering in shadow and the flood victims on their rooftop reaching out to him to be saved. Yet another comic book panel come to life. Sometimes, I’ll watch a whole movie and only remember one worthy scene in it. Books are like that, too.
This movie is almost here.
Of all the movies that is coming out (and those announced by James Gunn), this is the only one I am excited for.
I will definitely be adding this to my DVD library.
“I will definitely be adding this to my DVD library”
Are you stuck in 2003 or something?
Nope.
I want a physical copy of all my movies.
I refuse to pay for a “temporary license” to watch it online, where it can be altered/edited/removed at any time.

PHYSICAL COPIES RULE!!!!!!
Kinda checked out on Superhero movies since Avengers: End Game. The only movie I’m really looking forward to at the moment is John Wick 4.
Having said that, Shazam! was good, especially the comedy. Levi did a great job in the role.
Didn’t like the “Shazam Family” bit but at least it was understandable.
In this one it seems like there’s an expanded role for the “Family” which could diminish the titular character’s role. I’ll wait for the reviews before giving it a go.
