Morbius received a brand new trailer on Tuesday, and it shows Marvel’s living vampire’s unique brand of justice and fleeting grasp of human levity.
Morbius follows Dr. Michael Morbius, a scientist-turned-vampire, as a botched cure for a rare blood disease bestows upon him superhuman vampirism. The trailer depicts the transformation process, including his lust for blood and accompanying fangs. With the newly acquired powers in tow, Morbius sets out to make the world a better place, presenting the struggle between the desire for flesh and the desire for righteousness. Tough work ahead.
In a bit of a surprise, Michael Keaton reprises his role as Vulture from Spider-Man: Homecoming, marking the second blockbuster appearance for the superhero veteran in as many months; but uniquely playing for both major comic book cinematic universes. Morbius jokes about being Venom – an obvious allusion to an eventual crossover. While it doesn’t confirm anything Venom-related, the inclusion of Keaton in the trailer does mean that there is a connection with the current iteration of Spider-Man, and, therefore, the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Morbius is scheduled for a cinematic release on January 28th, 2022.
