Remember those exclusive Obi-Wan Kenobi stills from Total Film the other day? Well, now, some of the interview with Kenobi himself, Ewan McGregor, is available. Ewan McGregor famously played young Obi-Wan in the prequels and has returned to the role for the much-ballyhooed Obi-Wan Kenobi series coming later this month on Disney+. In the interview, McGregor was asked about any potential interest in returning to reprise his role again after Obi-Wan’s first (and only?) season airs. Read his response here:
“If we were to get an opportunity to do it again, I’d be totally up for that. Here I go again. It’s like me knocking at Disney’s door again!”
Personally, while I obviously love the character of Obi-Wan and McGregor’s performance as him, I can’t believe we’re discussing this. Or, rather, I wouldn’t believe it if it weren’t for Disney and their handling of Star Wars. Obi-Wan Kenobi is McGregor’s return as the character, and many people already think this is unnecessary. In my opinion, the only relevant stories left to explore with Obi-Wan would be his days as a young Padawan with Qui-Gon and his attempt to connect with Qui-Gon’s Force Ghost. I don’t think there’s any need to tell another story with this character after Obi-Wan Kenobi, and if they make more than one season, it will just be an indulgence. I’m not going to unilaterally say it would be bad for Obi-Wan to pop up in another one of the shows on Disney+, but it doesn’t seem like a good idea.
What do you think of Ewan McGregor’s comments? Do you want more of him as Obi-Wan? Let us know in the comments!
