Obi-Wan Was Conceived as a “Full Trilogy”

Before Joby Harold wrote the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, the concept existed as a movie written by Hossein Amini and Stephen Daldry. Now, a writer named Stuart Beattie has come forward in an interview with The Direct to reveal that he wrote a screenplay for the first film in a planned Obi-Wan Kenobi trilogy. Here, Beattie clarifies that he never worked with the final Kenobi writers and cites Solo’s failure for the trilogy’s cancellation and re-tooling:

“Right, so not at all, none. I wrote the film that they based the show on. So, yeah. I spent like a year, year-and-a-half working on it. And then, when the decision was made not to make any more spin-off films after Solo came out, I left the project and went on to other things. Joby came on and took my scripts and turned it from two hours into six. So, I did not work with them at all, I just got credit for the episodes because it was all my stuff.”

Overall, I don’t think it matters whether Obi-Wan was a movie or a TV series; what matters is how the story was handled. A feature wouldn’t have necessarily turned out better, though it probably would have had less filler, at least. The main problem with the series as it exists is the large scale and lack of focus on Obi-Wan’s Force Ghost training. Heck, Qui-Gon doesn’t appear until the end of the final episode. This is interesting background for the series’ production. However, since the episode scripts were based on Beattie’s screenplay, I have to assume Obi-Wan still would have been bad as a film.

What do you think? Should we have had an Obi-Wan trilogy instead of the Disney+ series? Let us know in the comments!

I have to guess that the movie would have been as bad as this series was. If the series is based off of that mans original screen play than this entire project was doomed to be garbage as soon as they chose His screenplay.
