Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 Trailer Makes Contact

The galaxy’s biggest a-holes are back (since a week ago, give or take), as Marvel has released a trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3. Not much is known about the film’s plot, but it involves searching for Gamora and meeting Adam Warlock. James Gunn – who recently became the co-CEO of DC Studios with Peter Safran – directs once again, with Chris Pratt, Zoë Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, and Pom Klementieff returning as the Guardians. Sean Gunn, Elizabeth Debicki, and Sylvester Stallone also return, with Will Poulter and Chukwudi Iwuji joining the cast. Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 will hit theaters on May 5, 2023; you can see the trailer below:

This is more a teaser than a full trailer, which I prefer. This one gives almost nothing away; we know the Guardians are looking for Gamora, the film will get into Rocket Raccoon’s backstory, and Adam Warlock is a thing. I’m sure there will be more as we get closer to the movie’s release, but I wish this were it. And it’s a fun trailer! The opening gag with the ball is hilarious, reminiscent of the snowball fight in Dumb and Dumber. I also enjoy how imaginative the planet is, with all kinds of anthropomorphic animals walking around like typical suburbanites; the panda is the most striking. Since this movie is going to deal with Rocket’s past, I suspect this scene is tied to him. The Guardians are also decked out in more formal attire; I wonder if they’re taking their roles more seriously, or at least trying to, now that they’ve seen how ugly the fight to save the universe can get. Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock is… present. I don’t have much of an opinion on him, anyway; the character will assuredly be different from the comic book version, if only because Thanos is gone now. I’m fine with that, as I never found him all that interesting anyway. The cosmic characters tend to be boring in the comics, with villains like Thanos being the exception because they’re allowed to be cool and scary instead of eternally ponderous; it doesn’t surprise me that Eternals turned out to be a snoozefest. I’m sure James Gunn will actually do something with Adam, though, and I’m open to liking him a lot more on the screen. After the excellent Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, I’m ready for more of Marvel’s motley crew of misfits.

What did you think of the Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 trailer? Did you enjoy the Holiday Special? Can the ever-expanding Guardians keep up with Indiana Jones today? Let us know in the comments, and stick around Geeks + Gamers for more space pirates gone good!

This is literally the only MCU movie that I am still looking forward to.

James Gunn has earned my trust with these. The rest of them will have to prove themselves, and I’m not holding my breath. Although I do think Ant-Man looks pretty cool based on that trailer.
