Today, the trailer for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts came out of nowhere. The film stars Ron Perlman, Michelle Yeoh, Peter Dinklage, Anthony Ramos, and more. Ramos features heavily in the trailer. Check it out here:
I saw the first couple of Transformers movies, and I liked the original when I was a kid. However, it wasn’t great art or anything, and I thought they got worse as they went along. I see a lot of excitement around this trailer, and I’m happy for the fans, but the only version I really liked was the short-lived Transformers Prime. I think this trailer looks abysmal, especially the ape-bot. It’s not the visuals I dislike, just the concepts themselves. Anthony Ramos is way too good for this!

Some have criticized the CGI and yes, it could always be better. This actually looks fun and rad. At 1:16 of the trailer, you see the cheetah, followed by the eagle breathing fire and then, the roller skater girl bot. I also liked the slo-mo scene of the guy in the car as it changed. Those action sequences and shots could be interesting. Things like this, or the latest Jurassic Park or Kong vs Godzilla are just winners. It looks like a cheap thrill ride. I like any movie which has racing or flying, so that the movie seems like a roller coaster. My only worry is that it might be like Black Adam, which, in my opinion, had too much action. There is a fine line between crafting a good fight or action, and just total bombardment and over-stimulation.
