I was watching old Bill Hicks videos tonight.  He was a funny comedian back in the 90s.  Pretty raw stuff, he took it to most everyone. And hilariously he looked like Alex Jones when he was younger.

I was watching a clip of a Letterman performance he did that was not aired. This screamed slippery slope to me for 2 reasons I list below.  Neither of the things are super egregious but they were stepping stones to where we are now.

      1) this was comedy that was censored (yes it was hardcore)

      2) he mentions how people were up in arms (this was 1993) because of books in schools about being gay (ie 2 mommies or 2 dads)

The point here is the shenanigans going on today many of us complain about and shake our heads at did not start within the last 5 years.  This has been brewing for decades.

Did Denis Leary rip off Bill Hicks? The Definitive Side-By-Side Comparison (Part One) from StandUpComedy

Story goes that supposedly Bill was mad at Denis Leary for stealing his act. It was mainly about smoking and drugs though, the hacked parts. Both were great performers. The thing about today is that, it’s fun to joke about stuff like Cocaine Bear, and it’s alright to laugh at these things, but you just hope that people realize it’s just for laughs. Fentanyl will kill you. There was a case in New York about a cocaine delivery service and it was laced with fentanyl and if someone gets just the wrong dose, they are dead. It’s not worth it. It gets worse all the time whether the drugs are illicit or from Big Pharma. It’s fun to laugh, but if you care about people, you might wanna warn them.

Leary’s album prophetic though. Bill Hicks, like Steve Jobs and Norm MacDonald, dead of Pancreatic Cancer.

I watched a large portion of that Hicks video of his ’92 standup and the Anti-Iraq war stuff was on point. Back then I would have disagreed with him on that but now I would say he is right.
