Agatha Christie’s Novels to be Edited by Sensitivity Readers

Agatha Christie is the next scalp the woke mob is coming to claim. After attempting to rewrite, cancel, besmirch, and otherwise rape the literary works of R.L. Stine (Goosebumps), Dr. Seuss (The Grinch, The Cat in the Hat),  Roald Dahl (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), and Ian Fleming (creator of James Bond) because the Twitter mob and the companies that listen to them are frightened of opinions that differ from theirs, these freaks have come for the works of Agatha Christie. Under the guise of “sensitivity” and “inclusivity,” new editions of Christie’s works will be published with “original passages amended or removed by publisher Harper Collins.” The affected segments include “descriptions, insults or references to ethnicity, particularly for characters Agatha Christie’s protagonists encounter outside the UK.” One known change from Death on the Nile removes a historically accurate reference to the “Nubian people” of Africa.

This rampant hatred and desecration of these literary works is not merely the beginning of a slippery slope, as many people believe, but it is well down the mountainside into dangerous territory. This extreme initiative was warned about by both history and some of the best science fiction authors of the 20th century. Once banning or editing of books is acceptable and commonplace, burning books, as was done in Nazi Germany, Mao’s China, and King Henry VII’s England, will not be far off.

As Ray Bradbury wrote, “Books are to remind us what asses and fools we were.” As such, even if these novels of the past were “offensive” or “outdated,” they must not be changed or censored. Even in the most despicable of classic texts, which none of the books under attack qualify as, there is wisdom and lessons to be learned lest we forget what “asses and fools we’ve been.”

Editing the past, whether or not you agree with what’s presented, is always unequivocally wrong. There are just as many lessons to learn from the worst books in history as the best, and none of the novels under attack provide even the semblance of a stance from which to attack them as these uneducated morons have continually done.
