Today at Star Wars Celebration, executive producers Brad Rau, Jennifer Corbett, and Athena Portillo announced the third and final season of The Bad Batch. The season will come to Disney+ in 2024 and close out the story of Clone Force 99. A trailer was shown to con-goers but has yet to officially be released to the public. As one might expect, the trailer focused on Crosshair and the Batch’s quest to free Omega from Mount Tantiss and Dr. Hemlock. Likewise, Star Wars: Visions Volume 2 got a trailer that was actually released on StarWars.com. Finally, Star Wars celebration will not take place in 2024; in 2025, the festivities will be held in Japan. Check out the Visions trailer here:
The Visions trailer looks fantastic! It’s easy to make out the signature styles of Aardman and Cartoon Saloon, and I can’t wait to learn more about the other studios/styles on display. Even more than in Volume 1, there’s a wide variety of designs and styles to appreciate here. I was skeptical of this show’s concept before Volume 1 dropped, and I have mixed feelings about that batch of shorts. Still, overall I salute the creativity and diversity of ideas on display. I can’t wait for this Volume to drop on May the 4th.
However, I’m even more thrilled by the announcement of more Bad Batch to come! For me, the best announcements of Celebration have come out of Lucasfilm animation. I don’t read the books or play the games, and I have mixed feelings about the shows and movies. But Resistance is the only animated Star Wars series to disappoint me yet. Season 2 of The Bad Batch was an enormous improvement in quality, and I was devastated by where the finale left us. Part of me wishes for a longer run, but I’m just glad this storyline will be complete, and it’s better for the show to quit while it’s ahead. We’ve seen too many shows stick around once they’ve outworn their welcome. As for Celebration 2025, I don’t care. I can’t go almost regardless of where it takes place, and I wouldn’t be interested in half of the panels anyway.
But what do you think about all these announcements? Talk to us in the comments!
Well, I’m glad that season 3 of Bad Batch is coming. I think I’m wondering about the endgame for this show. I’m understanding more that this about the dark times for the clones as well as the formation of the Empire, and here’s me wishing the Rebellion was formed now instead of fifteen years later. I think my problem is that there hasn’t been any real success. Like there was the rescue of Howzer by Gregor and crew. I’d like to see more of that. I’m sure Tech is alive, but I’m not sure if he’s with Hemlock or not.
I wasn’t expecting a second season for Tales of the Jedi and I’m curious about who they’ll focus in that? I enjoyed to an extent, I mean with the Sith plan in motion. It still kills me and angers how they got away with it.
Anyway, I enjoyed the trailer for Visions. I liked some of the stories from the first season including The Twins and Ninth Jedi. I like that we’ll be seeing more diverse animation studios doing episode besides Japan and I was blown away with what I saw. My favorite styles so far would be the ones that have animation similar to Laika, Tomm Moore’s films and Spider-Verse.
I have heard of the film announcements. I’m happy for Filoni and I’m curious about the movie with Rey training the next Jedi. The sequel trilogy had some moments, but was disappointed. I was hoping for just one Star Wars that I would call a great film. I’m not saying the original trilogy wasn’t because it was, but just not enough for a 4-star rating you know. Plus, I was introduced to the prequels first when Episode 1 was out and was already aware of Anakin’s fate because my cousin showed me the original trilogy. Sometimes I wish I saw the originals before the prequels.
