Michael Gambon, Dumbledore in Harry Potter films, dead at 82
Veteran actor (Sir) Michael Gambon, who was known to many for his portrayal of Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore in six of the eight Harry Potter films, has died, his publicist said Thursday. He was 82.
A statement by his family, issued by his publicist, said he died following “a bout of pneumonia.”
RIP
Gambon once acknowledged not having read any of J.K. Rowling’s best-selling books, arguing it was safer to follow the script rather than be too influenced by the books. This didn’t prevent him from embodying the spirit of Professor Dumbledore, the powerful wizard who fought against evil to protect his students.
Sadly, too many in hollywoke don’t want to respect the lore/source material, and just blindly follow the script regardless of how it differs from the source, or be called problematic/hard to work with.
But I can’t begrudge him too much, as I have never read the novels either (but I do have them in my personal library).
He was in A LOT of movies. He was really awesome. My favorite western (Open Range) he was great in.
Wasn’t crazy about Michael’s version of Dumbledore compared to Richard’s on the first two Harry Potter films but I grew up with his performances on the later ones. Snape killing Dumbledore is going to be even harder to watch now sadly😢.
