Amber Heard Claims Toxic Work Environment on Aquaman 2

Amber Heard was getting it from all sides if her therapy notes are to be believed. A Variety piece says that some fans of Johnny Depp paid the court fees to have Heard’s therapy notes, which were legal documents in the Depp-Heard trial, released. The notes, written on a legal pad by Dr. Dawn Hughes, detail allegations Heard made about her treatment on the set of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the sequel to the blockbuster DC movie Aquaman. Among Heard’s accusations are that Jason Momoa, who plays Aquaman, showed up to the set drunk and dressed like Johnny Depp (replete with “all the rings”) and tried to get Heard fired. She also alleges that director James Wan was hostile towards her because of the problems the trial was causing the film, angrily telling Heard that he “can’t even post about” the movie. DC spokespeople deny these allegations, although Variety’s sources tell them that Wan did want to get rid of Heard, but it was before the trial and because of her lack of chemistry with Momoa. (Walter Hamada, former president of DC film production at Warner Bros., said the same thing while testifying at the trial.) A source tells Variety that Telsa and Twitter owner Elon Musk, Heard’s former boyfriend, threatened “to burn the house down” if she was fired, which is why they kept her on.

I don’t believe the Jason Momoa stuff. That’s not because of any affinity I have for him; it just sounds ridiculous, and it’s coming from someone who appears to have little trouble concocting stories where she’s the victim. And as the DC representative said, Momoa dresses “in that bohemian style” as a matter of course. Someone as loony as Heard may convince herself it’s a personal attack, but I doubt it was. And Momoa seems too chill for that; he doesn’t strike me as the type to go out of his way to get somebody fired. You never know, of course, but between the two of them, I’d sooner believe him. On the other hand, I find the James Wan story easier to believe. I can see a filmmaker being frustrated that he can’t interact with the audience and try to get people excited for his movie because of a personal matter with one of his stars – a star he doesn’t particularly want in his film if the story about his attempt to fire her is on the level. (And Walter Hamada testified to that in court; that doesn’t mean it’s definitely true, but it lends credence.) Wan losing his temper with her is a believable story – much more believable than Jason Momoa dressing up like Johnny Depp to stick it to Amber Heard. I wonder if Warner Bros. is just happy for any Aquaman publicity at this point.
