YouTube is getting pretty serious about Ad Block.
I have not been impacted by this, until now.
I block ads on a few different levels on my entire network. I use an ad block extension on my browsers just as a fallback.
Due to this setup I noticed (at least for now) how they are detecting some of it.
My Firefox browser that I use for YouTube on my PC has started to pop up warnings about Ad Block.
I was curious if they were detecting the fact I was blocking ads or if they were somehow checking the browser for the extension.
So I disabled the extension. Boom, no warning even though I am still blocking ads.
For now they appear to be looking for browser extensions.
I just saw the first YouTube ad in years in Firefox. It seems YouTube is not only warning about blockers but also injecting ads in a new way.
Functionally for me. If they are successful with that I will just drop YouTube altogether. Almost anyone I watch is on Rumble anyway.
For your phone there are other options. There is YouTube Revanced which is somewhat slightly sketchy and hard to follow.
But Louis Rossman and Co. released their own app “Grayjay” which allows you to follow your folks on multiple platforms. It is in it’s infancy but it’s damn good and I already have dropped Revanced in favor of it. And I did buy Grayjay.
