The prequel to one of Amazon Prime’s big hits has a title. Almost a year ago, it was reported that The Terminal List, the adaptation of Jack Carr’s novel starring Chris Pratt as Navy SEAL James Reece, would eschew a second season in lieu of a prequel series following a supporting character, Taylor Kitsch’s Ben Edwards, an old comrade of Reece’s. Now, according to Deadline, the show has a name: The Terminal List: Dark Wolf. Pratt will join Kitsch on the series, which will begin production “early this year” and trace “Edwards’ journey from Navy SEAL to CIA paramilitary operator, exploring the darker side of warfare and the human cost that comes with it.” Kitsch and Pratt will be executive producers on The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, along with Carr and Antoine Fuqua, among others.
This doesn’t sound like a great idea to me. Aside from the title, which doesn’t do much for me, I don’t see the point in a whole show dedicated to Ben Edwards’ origins. Even if they wanted to do a prequel, Ben Edwards is a strange character to pick as the lead. If you saw The Terminal List and know his arc, it feels meaningless; we know all we need to know already. I wasn’t a huge fan of The Terminal List in the first place; it was okay, but I found the lead character almost devoid of humanity, which is hard to believe because Chris Pratt played him. Another season of the show has been greenlit as well, but for some reason, this one is taking precedence; maybe Chris Pratt has some movies in the works and needs time to clear his schedule before season 2 of The Terminal List. But despite not really wanting to see Dark Wolf, I am happy for Taylor Kitsch; he’s one of those actors who seems to keep getting a raw deal from Hollywood. I’d like him to be in something that sticks for once.
