TRAILER: Tales of the Empire

Today, Lucasfilm and Disney+ released a surprise trailer announcing Tales of the Empire, a new Star Wars animated miniseries a la Tales of the Jedi. This season will star Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto) of The Mandalorian and Ahsoka and Barriss Offee (Meredith Salenger) from The Clone Wars. Assuming it follows the same formula as Tales of the Jedi, three episodes will chronicle Barriss’ initiation as an Inquisitor (confirming a popular fan theory), with the other three following Morgan. Check out the trailer here:

This looks incredible. I loved Tales of the Jedi, especially the episodes about Count Dooku. I wonder if Tales of the Empire will replace that show’s second season, or if we might get both. That would be awesome. I’m thrilled to see more of the Grand Inquisitor and Thrawn, both of whom have been handled far better in animation/Rebels than in live-action. I’m happy Jason Isaacs is back as the Inquisitor; I didn’t care for Rupert Friend’s portrayal of the character in Obi-Wan Kenobi. Fans have been speculating about Barriss’ fate since season 5 of The Clone Wars when she was imprisoned for bombing a Jedi temple and subsequently framing Ahsoka for the deed. Barriss becoming an Inquisitor has consistently been a popular theory, with some even suggesting she became the Seventh Sister (Sarah Michelle Gellar) in Rebels. I still don’t think that’s her, but I’m interested to see what becomes of her. I’m less interested in Morgan Elsbeth, especially since she died in Ahsoka. Don’t get me wrong; I’m looking forward to the whole series, and maybe they can make Morgan more interesting. But I can definitely see this being like Tales of the Jedi, where Count Dooku’s storyline was more unique and informative than Ahsoka’s, about whom we already knew quite a bit.

Tales of the Empire will premiere all six shorts on Disney+ this May 4th. Will you be watching? Let us know in the comments!
