Daredevil: Born Again and Ironheart Get Updates

Marvel is setting up its next slate of Disney+ TV shows, for better or worse. During yesterday’s Disney upfront presentation – the one that revealed the final title of the Agatha Harkness show – Marvel revealed that Daredevil: Born Again will begin streaming in March of 2025, while Ironheart will premiere later in the same year. Both series also screened trailers in closed-room presentations; reports say they were very short and featured Matt Murdock suiting up as Daredevil and Riri Williams building her Ironheart armor. A logo for Daredevil: Born Again debuted, and it was revealed that the miniseries will have nine episodes, half of the previously reported eighteen. In red carpet interviews that you can see below, Daredevil: Born Again stars Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio gave Deadline some more information:

I imagine the episode cut has to do with Marvel reshooting the show; they had nine episodes in the can already, so it had to be expensive. They’re probably waiting until they see what the ratings are like before shooting another nine and making a second season of Born Again (or a fifth season of Daredevil, depending on how you look at it – which will have a lot to do with the quality of Born Again). That they only share “a handful of scenes” makes me believe this even more; their confrontations were likely saved for the second half of the season. Cox and D’Onofrio having creative input is a good thing, especially because they actually seem to care about the show and their characters; I suspect D’Onofrio didn’t have much say in the Kingpin’s depictions in Hawkeye and Echo. The logo is fine; it’s just the title in red with the New York City skyline beneath it. It’s not bad, but nothing special.

As for Ironheart… who cares? This is another Marvel production nobody wants but they insist on forcing on the audience (as much as they can anymore). I think it’s kind of hilarious that this show has been completed for some time now, but it’ll air after Daredevil: Born Again. I also wonder how difficult it was for Bob Iger to say he had “tremendous optimism” for this slate in a presentation that included Ironheart. This and Agatha All Along feel like regrettable decisions Disney is just burning off, and I don’t think anyone has much hope for them. And if they screw up Daredevil, they can just pack in their notion of expanding the MCU to their streaming service because nobody will trust them with a toothpick, let alone a superhero.
