Variety reports that Hamish Linklater has been cast as Cipher, Godolkin University’s new Dean, in season 2 of Gen V. Linklater has appeared in Manhunt as Abraham Lincoln as well as starring as Father Paul in the Netflix horror series Midnight Mass. Cipher is “charismatic and charming” and is a trained scientist with the trust of those in power. Gen V is a spin-off of Amazon Prime’s comic book adaptation The Boys, detailing the path some young supes take to become big heroes like The Seven. Jaz Sinclair, Lizze Broadway, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Asa Germann, and Shelley Conn appear in a main cast that lost Chance Perdomo in a tragic motorcycle accident in March. This led to a delay in production, but the show is now on track in Toronto.
I loved Hamish Linklater in Midnight Mass; his performance was the defining one in that miniseries. I haven’t seen him in anything else, but that’s okay because that’s one of the shows and performances that has impacted me and stuck in my mind the most. I enjoyed season 1 of Gen V, and I’ve been passively looking forward to its return. It’s not as good as The Boys, but it’s funny and interesting enough. I look forward to Linklater’s character, Cipher, joining the mix in season 2.
