GKids to Distribute Arcane Season 1 on Home Video

Today, GKids announced via Twitter that they have procured distribution rights to Arcane season 1. GKids is known for bringing anime and other hard-to-find animation to theaters and home video. Last year, they shepherded Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron to American cinemas. Arcane is an already-beloved animated series on Netflix. Produced by Riot Games and Fortiche Productions in France, Arcane is based on the video game League of Legends and follows sisters Jinx and Vi as their paths diverge over the years. This is fantastic news. Streaming services are notoriously picky about releasing their shows and films for purchase on physical media. Arcane is one of my favorite Netflix shows, and I’d love to own a copy of it. I obviously have no problem with watching streaming services, but I don’t trust them not to remove content because it becomes objectionable in some way. Or, who knows, they might decide they no longer want to pay royalties to the creators or something. Having your own copy is always a good contingency if you love the property. I look forward to any special features they include; I’d love to see some production art, hear character concepts, etc. That’s mostly a thing of the past, but it would help sell the home release.

What do you think about any of this? Are you going to pick up a copy of Arcane? Let us know in the comments!
