Will Sarah Paulson Return to American Horror Story?

Sarah Paulson recently appeared on Good Morning America to promote Hold Your Breath, her new Hulu thriller. Naturally, host Robin Roberts turned to Paulson’s most famous work, the horror anthology series American Horror Story, asking if she would return to the show. She has previously starred in nine of the show’s twelve seasons, only being absent from three seasons: 1984, NYC, and Delicate. American Horror Story catapulted Paulson to stardom, and she is one of the most popular and missed cast members from the series. This has also led to Paulson starring in other Ryan Murphy projects like American Crime Story, in which she played O.J. Simpson prosecutor Marcia Clark and Clinton impeachment witness Linda Tripp, and Ratched, a prequel to One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. See what Paulson had to say regarding the possibility of starring in American Horror Story again below (via Deadline):

“I think there is a big chance that I will return to American Horror Story,” Paulson said. “I’ve got everything crossed. I would like to do it more than anything. It’s my home. It’s where I started.”

She went on to discuss her experience on the show:

“I got to play, you know, seven different characters in seven years, which as an actor is the most exciting, thrilling thing, and also allows an audience to be ready for anything you’re going to do because they’re not attached to one thing that you do, specifically. That has given me a lot of career flexibility.”

Paulson continued to say that rejoining American Horror Story would allow her to work with her “favorite people,” adding, “If I could be reunited with Evan Peters and Ryan Murphy, you can pretty much tell me what time I will be there, and I will be there.”

Well, this is certainly an exciting possibility. It’s essentially a meme at this point that the departures of Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, and Jessica Lange coincided with the downturn in American Horror Story’s quality. I don’t think we’ll be seeing Lange return, but I’d love for Paulson and Peters to star in one final season. Season 13 is the last one ordered as of yet, and honestly, I think it would be a good ending place. American Horror Story’s popularity has diminished over the years, and it would be nice to send it out on a high note rather than continue dragging it out.

Sarah Paulson’s comments about the diversity of her roles on American Horror Story are interesting, and I can imagine how an anthology series would lend itself to this sort of creativity. You’re just not the same character every time; Billie Dean Howard isn’t at all like Tuberculosis Karen, for example. Sarah Paulson is a great actress, and I’m so glad she has been able to flex those muscles on this show and others. I also really liked her comments about her favorite people. She and Evan Peters do play off of one another really well, and she obviously likes working with Ryan Murphy since she appears in so many of his productions. American Horror Story will never be like the old days with all these guys, Angela Bassett, Cathy Bates, and Jessica Lange, but this smaller reunion would still be a lot of fun. As much as I like the newer stable of actors, these guys are a different caliber.

But what do you think? Should Sarah Paulson come back to her “home” or watch the ship sink? Are you going to watch American Horror Story season 13, and will her casting (or lack thereof) impact your decision? Let us know in the comments!
