Ubisoft Employee Shames Gamers for Mocking Them Amid Business Woes and Scandals

Ubisoft is in trouble, and it wants you to know that you’re the bad guy. At least, one of its employees does. Stevy Chassard, Ubisoft’s monetization director, posted (and later deleted) a message on his LinkedIn account chastising anyone who’s cheering on Ubisfot’s downward spiral – the failure of Star Wars Outlaws, the delayed release and probably underperformance of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the shareholder battle behind the scenes – is a bad person who is “spreading hate.” You can see a screenshot of Stevy Chassard’s post below, courtesy of Bounding Into Comics:

Did you pull a Grinch and feel your heart grow three sizes this day? I hope so. Otherwise, you’re a “non-decent human.” Of course, Chassard doesn’t bring up Ubisoft bringing these problems on itself by doing things like releasing Star Wars Outlaws before it’s anywhere near finished. You’ve certainly seen the videos by now – if not, I’ll embed one below – and know what those unlucky enough to have spent money on this trash heap are complaining about. Star Wars Outlaws is beyond buggy, with the main character often being swiped across an entire landscape, falling through the ground, being caught in walls, and getting shot at without taking any damage because the laser blasts don’t register. And this is a game that was not only released at full price but was broken off into pieces that demanded even more payments for the whole experience.

Mauler sums this up succinctly:

Then, there’s the Assassin’s Creed Shadows fiasco, where they angered Japanese gamers over the stunning disrespect they showed Japanese culture and history, including using Chinese architecture, stealing modern-day flags from private groups, and making the lead male character a black man they claim is a historical samurai using misleading records from a huckster of a historian and calling anyone who doesn’t like it a racist. The shame was so bad that Ubisoft didn’t even bother to show off Assassin’s Creed Shadows at the Tokyo Game Show, pulling out of the Japanese gaming expo at the last minute (while claiming only racist white Western gamers were angry). And now, they’re delaying the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows to fix it as best they can, with the excuse that they’re polishing the game undercut with Endymion’s reporting that they’re trying to de-woke-ify whatever they can. Are they surprised that people think they’ve earned every bit of this embarrassment?

It’s not just the games, either. Ubisoft has been hostile towards gamers who don’t like the way they’re forcing identity politics and DEI into their games, with CEO Yves Guillemot accusing them of attacking Ubisoft employees and calling on everyone from the video game industry to call out unruly customers. This is in conjunction with the many accusations of racism against people pointing out the many issues with Assassin’s Creed Shadows. And now, we’ve learned something else about this studio: they’ve been accused of selling their customers’ private information to Facebook and its parent company, Meta, which involves “wiretapping” gamers, among other things. According to Bloomberg Law (which is behind a paywall, but you can get the information at TechRaptor), customers are suing Ubisoft over this, saying Ubisoft collected their information using a tool called Meta Pixel Tracker when they downloaded a game while logged into Facebook and then gave it to Meta/Facebook without consent.

Again, these are the people we’re supposed to feel sorry for? You can’t insult, cheat, and spy on your customers and not expect blowback, and considering that their business is collapsing, a couple of people are flat-out suing them, and they’re currently considering allowing TenCent to buy them out, a few laughs at their misfortune are a drop in the bucket.

Let us know what you think of Ubisoft’s righteous indignation in the comments!

Shadows was bad and insulting enough to take down the company, but for them to openly engage in identify theft? It is flat out criminal.
This is how you know it’s over for this company. Yeah, we’re just gonna steal your data and sell it to spammers.
This is why I NEVER bite on political ads. Some globalist on the other end is looking to to rip you off.
