There is very little that I am into, whether it’s movies or shows or comics, so figured I’d talk about a comic I like. Vicarious and one called Standstill are my favorites at the moment.

Enter Justin: an aimless 20- something desperate for human connection and excitement.
After a dangerous encounter reveals itself as a fortuitous opportunity, Justin finds just what he’s looking for in the secret world of Proxies-young, pretty, ambitious hustlers like himself who allow the rich access to their feelings and experiences through a technological implant.
Does Justin have what it takes to make it in this seductive new world?

So, rich anon uses are able to tap into youth and feel and sense everything through a prime age body. That is the premise. Kind of a 13th floor situation, so it’s sci-fi that raises a lot of ethical questions. It is so plausible too because you already see the things going on with only fans and such. Then, there was the whole GoPro era, but people want to actually feel it. Like, the adrenaline and then mentality and the intimacy.

In computer networking, a proxy server is a server application that acts as an intermediary between a client requesting a resource and the server providing that resource. It improves privacy, security, and possibly performance in the process.

In political science, a proxy war is an armed conflict fought between two belligerents, wherein at least one of the belligerents, whether a state or a non-state actor, is supported by an external third-party power.

It reminds me of a top Netflix series, this comic. Sci-fi that has been missing. They did try things like this with The Peripheral and maybe Ready Player One, but in this case, the protagists have external users.

An excellent scene about product placement. Much like The Truman Show, but we’ve seen it in movies a bunch. The other comic I like, called Standstill is about a killer that gets access to a device that can stop time, so he is able to do hitman stuff and heists and things like that. He can interfere with gangs and cartels and activity.

I like the next scene because it’s rare that we hear the voice of a preacher or pastor trying to warn people of the dangers that technology has created.

Sad but true that inflation has caused a lot of people to go to great lengths to get ahead.

The thing that kind of makes this comic special is the writing. Never thought I’d be into a comic that is driven by dialogue mostly, but it’s good story so far, for two issues. I really liked the first four issues of Standstill, but was iffy on the 5th, I think.

So, while most comics are driven by the action and by the fighting, this is one that really grabs my attention with the writing. At the end of the first issue, he is so desperate to get users and clients after a ton of rejection that a guy that asks him for a city view provokes him to do parkour on rooftops and the guy was blown away and told him to calm down. Funny line after that, he goes, next time, let’s just steal a car.

So, anyway, I’m diggin’ Ryan Parrot and I never heard of him before, but he’s grabbing my attention with the writing.
