Some of the year’s most reviled video games are getting discounts before the Christmas Season. The first is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, the lightning rod for the backlash against DEI among gamers and the one that brought woke consulting firm Sweet Baby Inc. into the public eye. Kill the Justice League has had a tumultuous year, failing out of the gate when word got out about how it disrespected characters as beloved as Batman; the reportedly awful gameplay probably didn’t help. The Digital Deluxe Edition of Kill the Justice League costs $99.99 on Steam, PlayStation Store, and Microsoft Store, but on the Epic Games Store, it’s on sale for $4.99, which is 5% of its market price. This is a game that’s less than one year old, and you can now buy it for less than an ice cream sundae. That is insane, even when taking into account that Warner Bros. says Kill the Justice League lost them $200 million. Can you imagine what this will do to the already decimated reputation of Sweet Baby Inc.? “Hire us, and your game will be in the bargain bin for Christmas!” Just kidding – they probably don’t say the word “Christmas.”
Next is the hilarious Ubisoft debacle Star Wars Outlaws, the game that put you in the role of a female Han Solo replacement and sent you on smuggling missions through incorporeal landscapes, pitted you against enemies who couldn’t see you when you were standing right in front of them, randomly swept you across the screen, and charged you extra to play the whole game. Ant farms aren’t this buggy. Star Wars Outlaws has an Amazon Exclusive Limited Edition, which is special because it includes The Rogue Infiltrator Character Pack, which is just some new outfits for Kay Vess, the lead character. Originally, the Amazon Exclusive Limited Edition cost the standard $69.99; now, that price has been reduced by $20 to $49.99. According to Fandom Pulse, this gels with a comment from Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot that the company would give Star Wars Outlaws “promotional support throughout the busy season.” Good luck with that, sparky. The best promotional support would probably be fixing the many technical issues the game has and then releasing a new edition that advertises that it actually works this time, but I’m not a marketing guy, so what do I know?
Finally, there’s Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the latest entry in the Dragon Age series from BioWare that appears to be more a lecture about trans rights and diversity than a video game designed to entertain people. There have been reports that Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been underperforming, with the game getting around 30,000 refunds in three days, possibly because people weren’t expecting to get a lecture on proper pronoun use and how to apologize for getting them wrong in their RPG fantasy game. On Amazon, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is now $62.99, down 10% from its starting price of $69.99. That may not seem like much – it’s only $7 – but this game is only three weeks old; discounting it already suggests that its sales are abysmal, and BioWare is desperate to turn things around. To normal people who laugh at things like ram monsters coming out as transgender in the middle of a video game that takes place in a fantasy universe, the failure of Dragon Age: The Veilguard isn’t a huge surprise, but you have to wonder if this is coming as a shock to the far-left wackos who developed it. Did they really think people wanted to play a game like this? Or did they think people would sigh but push on in the hopes that it would get better and maybe even learn a lesson about misgendering fantasy ram monsters? But it’s probably more that they didn’t care because they got paid either way. But you can bet BioWare cares now.
