Seasons Greetings to everyone.
Things are different this year – still challenging to be sure but hopefully more positive for us all.
Starting things off with this:
It’s good to see old fashioned family values making a return in the most recent batch of Christmas Ads. Keep ’em coming:
OP’s commercial one of the best I’ve ever seen. I like that emotional stuff. It’s probably already been done, but I think those stories from Chicken Soup for The Soul would make good ads. Probably done already.
Hard to find them of good quality. Here’s an idea: go back, pick out your favorite ads, and recreate them. The reason I say this, is sometimes, it literally seems like anything prior to shooting on digital looks totally ancient. It’s kind of embarrassing when I see a sports game I remember and the footage is all butchered and grainy. Things changed radically when digital and then, smart phones and social media kind of all came together. It was like an analog version of the singularity.
For Disney, since they are taking away The Muppets. OP’s commerical one of the best I’ve seen. Apple should be commended for that one. Very rare to see anything wholesome or innocent anymore. Seeing old commercials, it’s a bygone era. Everything now is edgy and dark to the point of being obnoxious.
There used to be lovely Christmas ads here in the UK many years ago. Now they all seem to be very anti-Christmas and not as cosy and festive anymore. Loved seeing the Coke-A-Cola truck ads and I even had bedding with it on as a kid that my now late grandmother had made for me!
@comicsgate – I discovered A Muppet Family Christmas a few years ago. Dunno how I missed that as a kid but it’s now on the must watch list for the season.
@DragonLady – By co-incidence the Coca-Cola Christmas Caravan is in my area today. Never actually seen it live though.
The following is a short documentary on Christmases from the 50s – 80s highlighting how it has changed throughout the decades morphing from something simple to something very commercial but each with its own special charm.
It mentions that Christmases of the first decade of our childhood are usually the ones which we most fondly remember. I wholeheartedly agree.
After The Muppets thing, the algo sent me a Live at the Opry version of this song. Guy was so talented that he sounds better live than in studio. This song stood out. I did not grow up with this super famous artist. Don’t think we had a record from him. Song really moved me, just the intelligence level and quality. I truly wonder if he would even make it today in the music scene. All time great talent. Another guy I really like, who I did not listen to much nor enough, was Neil Diamond.
We will NOT forget.
Worse than 9-11.
This is just before my time, so a huge blind spot. Usually, the older generation raves about this artist. Great voice. Heard this Christmas song downtown. She was also a globally ranked drummer and considered one of the best drummers in the world. A woman. So, I know nothing of The Carpenters. It’s only when you are slowed down that you can really appreciate some of these 70s artists. They are so clean. No strain on their voices or playing. It’s very organic and natural.
Guy is into it. Helluva singer.
Liked his music, but he got moves too. Impressed.
After the total collapse of Hollywood and entertainment, it’s good to see this instead.
@comicsgate – nice variety of music there. There’s something about a Choir that adds something extra to Christmas music.
And yes, Karen Carpenter like many artists of yesteryear had a very distinctive voice and style.
I’m surprised they’re still making these. ‘Twas the bee’s knees back in the day.
Unfortunately, something happened, and I’m going vintage, retro and old school.
