Spider-Man is swinging by to give us a glimpse at a post-Avengers: Endgame world via a new trailer for the highly anticipated sequel Spider-Man: Far From Home. As Peter Parker himself, Tom Holland, warns you before the trailer, there are huge spoilers for Avengers: Endgame, so don’t watch if you haven’t seen it. But if you have (and given the box office, odds are you have), check out the new Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer below:
The trailer opens with a melancholic moment, as Peter is trying to figure out where he can go without being able to look to his mentor. Although Holland only has one film left on his contract, I like the idea that Spider-Man is essentially being set up to take charge in the MCU, something about which Peter seems reticent. Fortunately, both Jon Favreau’s Happy Hogan (who works with Spider-Man, not for him) and Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury are here to remind him he’s not just the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man anymore, especially since, as Fury, in particular, points out, he’s been to space. As much as Peter doesn’t want to admit it, he’s got a lot more responsibility now. Much like Spider-Man: Far From Home’s last trailer, the message behind Uncle Ben’s famous words permeates the new clip even though they are never spoken. One of the things fans have wondered is what other ramifications the Snap has had, and thanks to this trailer and Fury, we have some insight into some all-new possibilities with Mysterio apparently being from another universe. I’m not one for this Sony/Marvel deal, so the idea that Sony is the one pointing the way forward for the MCU is hysterical. Not only does this open the door for a live-action Miles Morales, but it could also serve as an organic way to introduce the X-Men into the MCU down the road.
