Fantastic Beasts 3 Sets Release Date

Warner Bros. is ready to return to the Wizarding World. Deadline reports that Fantastic Beasts 3 has an official release date, along with a plethora of other details. Set for release on November 12, 2021, the next David Yates-directed installment in the Harry Potter prequel series will take Newt and company to Brazil and will see expanded roles for both Jessica Williams’ Professor Hicks and – according to Variety – Jude Law’s Dumbledore, the latter of whom will ensure Hogwarts will be a major locale in the franchise once again, as opposed to the all-too-brief visit we experienced in The Crimes of Grindelwald.

However, the most intriguing element of this news is the fact that Harry Potter veteran screenwriter and Fantastic Beasts producer Steve Kloves will be co-writing the Fantastic Beasts 3 script (about which the Warner Bros. brass is apparently very enthusiastic) with author J.K. Rowling. Ever since the end of the original franchise, Kloves has often spoken of working on something with the celebrated mega-selling author again, so this definitely seems like a full-circle moment for the franchise. When The Crimes of Grindelwald underperformed at the box office amid many fans’ criticisms (including my own), I wondered where the series would go next. It wasn’t long before they pushed the third installment back from its original November 2020 release date, with Dune briefly taking the spot. In addition, major kudos must go to Warner Bros. for keeping Yates at the helm. Hopefully, the extra time will rejuvenate the filmmaker and allow him to lead the series to the same critical and financial success of the first film.
