A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Adds 7 Cast Members

Seven Roles for Seven Kingdoms?

Following House of the Dragon’s season 2 finale and a short preview for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, we’re getting casting news for the latter. This latest Game of Thrones spinoff takes place 100 years before Game of Thrones and almost 100 years after House of the Dragon. According to Variety, the upcoming show has added seven more actors to its cast, including Edward Ashley (Masters of the Air) as Ser Steffon Fossoway, Henry Ashton (A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, My Lady Jane) as Daeron Targaryen, Youssef Kerkour (House of Gucci) as Steely Pate, Daniel Monks (Netflix’s upcoming film Kaos) as Ser Manfred Dondarrion, Shaun Thomas (How to Have Sex) as Raymun Fossoway, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor (Avengers: Infinity War) as Plummer, and Danny Webb (The Regime, The Dig) as Ser Arlan of Pennytree. For the sake of clarity, this Daeron Targaryen isn’t Alicent’s youngest son in House of the Dragon; he would be very old if he were! Peter Claffeyl and Dexter Sol Ansell are already attached to star in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms as the main characters, Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg, respectively. Finn Bennett is also cast as Aerion Targaryen, Bertie Carvel as Baelor Targaryen, with Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle, Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, and Sam Spruell as Maekar Targaryen. Based on George R.R. Martin’s novellas The Hedge Knight (1998), The Sworn Sword (2003), and The Mystery Knight (2010), the show is summarized as follows:

“A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros…a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”

Martin and Ira Park are co-creators and executive producers of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and Ira is also the showrunner. Ryan Condal, Vince Gerardis, Sarah Bradshaw, and Owen Harris are also attached as executive producers on the show. Condal is, of course, the showrunner on House of the Dragon. After season 1, I would have been so excited to see anything else from him. However, now, that argument could go either way. I still love House of the Dragon for the characters, but season 2 was a considerable time sink. Despite being shorter than season 1, multiple episodes’ worth of runtime was wasted.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Cast

I’m not too familiar with most of these actors, but I haven’t known most of the actors in Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon beforehand. Only Lena Headey, Peter Dinklage, Matt Smith, and Olivia Cooke come to mind as having been on my radar at all before joining this franchise. I’m definitely giving A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms a chance because I’ve enjoyed the other two shows immensely, give or take a bad season here and there. It’s actually pretty cool how these wildly expensive shows are willing to give up-and-coming actors a chance to shine. It’s somewhat exciting to watch these adaptations grow, especially since this particular universe is largely overseen by the author. I haven’t read Martin’s work, but I believe the fans based on the shows. My husband recently started reading A Game of Thrones and is loving it. However, the more shows HBO makes, the more chances there will be to mess everything up.

But what do you think? Do you know and like any of these performers? Are you going to watch A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms? How are you planning to stay sane until House of the Dragon returns?! Let us know in the comments below!
