A Plague Tale Television Adaptation Announced

The award-winning game A Plague Tale: Innocence is getting a television adaption from Merlin Productions and Focus Entertainment, as reported by Matthieu Turi to English-speaking fans on his Twitter account. Turi, best known for assistant directing Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, will be fulfilling an unknown role in the production of this series.

In a French article from The Allocine, Fabrice Renault, head of Merlin Productions, had this to say:

It is fundamental for me that our productions reflect French talents and know-how. A Plague Tale is a game designed in Bordeaux by Asobo that we produce with a company based in Paris; its creators had the opportunity to sell the adaptation in the United States, but they preferred to work with French people: I want to return that trust to them.”

Despite the underwhelming history of video game adaptions, this project may stand apart with a glimmer of hope over its counterparts, as it is devoid of mainstream Hollywood influences. As such, the customary mistakes made in video game live-action adaptations may be skirted. At this time, there is no word on when the TV adaptation of A Plague Tale will release, but it cannot be expected for many years to come. For the time being, fans of the franchise will have to settle for awaiting the sequel to the game, coming sometime later this year.

A Plague Tale

The 2019 game, A Plague Tale: Innocence, follows a young French girl, Amicia, and her little brother, Hugo, as a horde of plague-infected rats invade Medieval France and force the siblings on a journey to find safety from the coming doom. The game seamlessly balances the real-world history of the Black Death with fantasy elements as it crafts this unconventional story centered upon stealth and speed. The game’s sequel, A Plague Tale: Requiem, is set for an unknown release date this year and will continue the journey of these two siblings as strange abilities start to manifest within Hugo, leading towards disastrous consequences.
