An Interview with Sweet Baby Inc. Detected Creator Kabrutus

The last week of gaming news has centered on Sweet Baby Inc. Detected, a Steam curator that lists all the video games consulting company Sweet Baby Inc. has worked on. There was a ridiculous overreaction to what seems like it should be a minor issue to people who work on God of War and DC Comics video games, and it not only turned even more people against Sweet Baby Inc. but made them discover the curator. Babs would be proud.

Today, the creator of Sweet Baby Inc. Detected, Kabrutus, spoke with me about the media backlash, Sweet Baby Inc.’s bullying tactics, and what inspired him to start his curator.

Sweet Baby Inc Detected

Alex: What are your impressions of Sweet Baby Inc. and its role in game development? Is the Kotaku article accurate?

Kabrutus: I don’t think the article is accurate at all. First, it says that we are harassing Sweet Baby Inc. when, in fact, it was an SBI employee who tried to start a harassment campaign against me. Also, SBI forces political agendas and DEI into their games; it’s pretty clear to everybody at this point, yet the same article tries to say that they simply do not, that all this diversity stuff in games is actually “natural.” This couldn’t be further from the truth.

A: What made you take notice of Sweet Baby Inc.? Did it start with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League?

K: Actually, it was a few months before the release of Suicide Squad. I started noticing patterns in some games, like ugly women and male characters being weakened to make female ones look stronger. The first game that SBI worked on where I noticed this kind of stuff was God of War: Ragnarök. I think anyone who played God of War III would find it really weird when Kratos decides to spare Thor and says, “We must be better.” That simply didn’t fit the character.

A: When did you start the Sweet Baby Inc. Detected curator?

K: The exact date was January 29, 2024.

A: Just before Suicide Squad was released.

K: Yeah. Suicide Squad was the game that inspired me to start it. It wasn’t the first game with SBI involvement I took notice of, but it’s definitely the game that inspired me to start the curator page.

A: What about this game pushed you to do it?

K: I saw A LOT of people angry with that game on its community hub on the Steam forums and Twitter, so I started thinking of doing something about it. Then, I remembered the Denuvo curator I’d followed a few days earlier. I started thinking of doing something about it, something to help the gaming community organize and make a stand against SBI and this culture of theirs. So, I went to Paint, made the first logo in, like, three minutes, googled how to create a curator page on Steam, and did it.

A: Did you think it would be as popular as it is?

K: No.

A: That request to mass report you clearly didn’t work, but are you aware of anyone reporting you? Did you or the curator get any blowback?

K: There are lots of bad actors trying to jeopardize the Steam group and the Discord server, that’s for sure. But other than the SBI employee who tried to start the harassment campaign against me, no.

A: That’s good to hear. It’s also kind of hilarious that it went nowhere.

A: Is there anything you’d like to say?

K: This is a message for any game developers reading this: do not fear people like Sweet Baby Inc. They are weak, and they cannot do anything against us. All they can do is scream and point their finger, nothing more than that. Care about your fan base; care about your PLAYERS.

Yeah, I didn’t think of that, and he’s being interviewed all over. Glad people are picking up on his story.

Great Article but I feel he missed the mark on GOWR, Thor was not meant to be just another god for Kratos to kill, he was meant to be a reflection of Kratos’ past self, Kratos gave him the same chance he was given when he himself thought he was too far gone.

Yeah, I get what he meant, but I didn’t find God of War: Ragnarok too bad on that level. The idea of him forcing himself to change because he’s a father and doesn’t want his son to become like him made sense to me. I do admit to missing how satisfying the old Kratos megadeaths were, but the storytelling was good.

Good art is inclusive. All this DEI is just telling. Telling us that there’s either a lack of talent in the industry. (Doubt that) Or the talent is afraid to speak up.

Love it! The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. They can not cancel us unless we let them.

Good stuff, glad some sites aren’t attacking this group I joined on Steam. Never really visited this website, I will now, the bias out on the web is getting to out of hand. I don’t care about gender, race or what have you, just want a good, fun game :)
