FUBAR is only the beginning of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s planned comeback. Deadline exclusively reports that Arnold has signed on to star in Breakout, an upcoming action movie from Scott Waugh, the director of the upcoming Expendables 4. Arnold will play Terry Reynolds, who travels to an as-yet-unnamed country to break his stepson out of prison. (I know you’re not supposed to say this nowadays, but the kid’s mom needs to be really hot, so we understand why Arnold would go to all this trouble; that’s a semi-joke.) Breakout will begin filming in Eastern Europe later this year. Arnold’s last movie appearance was in Terminator: Dark Fate, which sucks for everyone; he’s also got Kung Fury 2 completed and waiting for release, as well as the Twins sequel Triplets, which will never happen, on his docket.

I’m glad Arnold is back making action movies – or an action movie, anyway – but it doesn’t sound like my ideal Arnold project right now. One of his more recent endeavors, Escape Plan, was a prison break movie; does he really want to retread that ground already? It was ten years ago, and Sylvester Stallone was the lead, but he’s done very little since then, so it feels even more recent than it is. And director Scott Waugh is a cipher to me; I haven’t seen Act of Valor or Need for Speed, and Expendables 4 is still on the horizon. Writer Richard D’Ovidio doesn’t have much of a resume either. But it’s Arnold, and it’s action, so I’ll be there; I just hope this is a good comeback for him and not a dud. I also hope it gets Arnold, in that it makes him a larger-than-life force of pure action. That’s what Arnold is, and I think some of his “comeback” movies didn’t understand that. FUBAR looks like it does, and this needs to as well.
