Warner Bros. is summoning a specter with the title of one of its biggest 2024 releases. A new poster reveals that the Beetlejuice sequel will be called Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. This refers to the way the titular “bio-exorcist” is either called forth or banished: by saying his name three times. That the sequel has his name – or a misspelled version of it – only twice suggests that a third movie is planned, with the obvious title being Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. (Uh oh… a model in my living room just split open.) Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, directed by Tim Burton and starring Winona Rider, Jenna Ortega, Catherine O’Hara, Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe, Justin Theroux, and, of course, Michael Keaton, will arrive in theaters on September 6, 2024. You can see the new poster that announces the title below:
There was some confusion as to the title, with Deadline saying it was Beetlejuice Beetlejuice 2024 AD, but Warner Bros. confirmed it’s just the double-B-word in a tweet:
Dare you to say it again. #Beetlejuice #Beetlejuice – Only in theaters September 6. pic.twitter.com/0UKfCqKqxy

I like this title. It’s more creative than the standard Beetlejuice 2, and it’s in keeping with the character and his lore, as opposed to, for example, Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian (in which he presumably would have teamed up with Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello). And it’s evocative of Betelgeuse’s return after a thirty-six-year cinematic dormancy, which makes it a little exciting, like they’re saying, “He’s almost here.” And, again, it makes it seem like another sequel is in the works, likely dependent on how well Beetlejuice Beetlejuice does at the box office. The image on the poster is in keeping with that theme, showing Betelgeuse holding a ticket to see his caseworker like he was at the end of Beetlejuice – one with the movie’s release date. I was leery of this film when it was announced, but everything that has come along changed my mind, and I’m now excited to see what Burton has done with this world. It could still go wrong, but I love Beetlejuice, and if he’s to return, I want it to be great.
