Brendan Fraser to Skip Golden Globes Ceremony

Brendan Fraser told GQ he won’t attend the Golden Globes next year if nominated. His performance in The Whale is strongly expected to get an Golden Globe nomination for acting. Fraser’s allegations against Philip Berk, former of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, have never been acknowledged, and he has received no apology. Berk himself denies the accusation. Check out Fraser’s remarks here:

“I have more history with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association than I have respect for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. No, I will not participate.”

“It’s because of the history that I have with them,” he explained. “And my mother didn’t raise a hypocrite. You can call me a lot of things, but not that.”

I don’t blame him one bit and would have been surprised if he did go to the ceremony. I’m surprised to hear that Berk is still a member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and that the entity has never apologized to Fraser. I don’t like award shows anymore anyway, and I hope other people decide to boycott the Golden Globes as well. I’ve always liked Fraser, and it’s been good to see him come back and call the system out.
