Cobra Kai Season 6: Part 1 Trailer Begins the End

Brush up on your crane kick and leg sweep because Daniel La Russo and Johnny Lawrence are almost back. Today, Netflix released a new trailer for Cobra Kai Season 6: Part 1. The final season of the Karate Kid revival series will be split into three parts, each with five episodes; part 1 will arrive on the streamer on July 18. Ralph Macchio and William Zabka return from the movies as Daniel and Johnny, as do Yuji Okumoto as Chozen and Martin Kove as John Kreese. They’re joined by series regulars Mary Mouser, Xolo Maridueña, Tanner Buchanan, Peyton List, Jacob Bertrand, and Courtney Henggeler. You can see the Cobra Kai Season 6: Part 1 trailer below:

There isn’t a lot to analyze in this one, and that’s perfectly fine with me. At this point, Cobra Kai is the last series that has to sell me on another season; I love this show like nothing else on TV right now, and I’m excited to see how it ends. That doesn’t mean there’s nothing to hook you in the trailer, however, starting with Johnny drinking beers during a karate class and shooting the empty bottles at his students. It also looks like there’s still conflict between former enemies who’ve become unlikely allies; Johnny and Daniel seem to have a rift growing between them, and Daniel’s daughter Samantha is far from besties with her rival, Torie. I like the idea of Daniel’s rivalry with Johnny being mirrored in his daughter, and I hope the show plays that up; a lot of Cobra Kai is about the older generation shaping the new one, for better or worse, and as much as Daniel and Johnny (albeit in their own ways) want to make their kids better, they often inadvertently pass on their lesser qualities as well. Since this is the last season, that would make for a good final storyline: ensuring the kids are alright. That mysterious box from Mr. Miyagi could tie into that as well; perhaps Daniel’s old sensei isn’t done teaching him, either. And speaking of that, it’s wonderful to have absolutely no reservations about whether this will hurt the character; the way Cobra Kai has dealt with Mr. Miyagi has been masterful, and his spirit is felt every time Daniel is on the screen – and even sometimes when he’s not. I’ll miss Cobra Kai when it’s gone, but I’m looking forward to a fantastic send-off.
