Cyberpunk 2077 had a rough launch in December 2020 as a plethora of glitches and game-breaking bugs permeated the ambitious game. The issues were bad enough for the CD Projekt Red to release four road maps of patches and updates that would improve the game, little by little.
Fast-forward over one year later and we finally get a full next-gen upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. CD Projekt Red had a Cyberpunk update livestream on their Twitch channel today, February 15th. In it, they discussed the free 1.5 update releasing the same day, which turns out to be reasonably large. In addition to small tweaks to the perk system and NPC AI, the driving physics received an update with the ability to do burnouts, heavier vehicles, ABS braking, improved drifting, and suspension improvements. Each car is supposed to have unique physics now, as opposed to the samey feel of vehicles previously. Cockpit visibility was also added. Night City crowds have better reactionary AI now, including violent retaliation when threatened.
The full 1.5 patch notes list all the details on CD Projekt Red’s site.
A 30-minute gameplay demonstration for the next-gen versions for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S was shown during the presentation.
Some small DLCs are included as part of the patch, featuring housing renovations, mid-game customizable V, 2 new weapons… and a walk toggle.
The 1.5 update is free and available right now for all platforms, with the next-gen upgrade applying to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. A free playable demo is available now for the first time. The next-gen versions feature 4K dynamic scaling, ray tracing, faster loading times, and options for performance or graphics modes. Due to the PS5 previously using the PS4 version of Cyberpunk via backwards compatibility, users have to download the separate PS5 version on the PlayStation Store, available now!
In addition to CD Projekt Red’s site, the complete updates list is also presented in the full livestream event.
This update won’t be the final one for Cyberpunk, but it serves as a major milestone in fixing the game’s bugs from launch and beyond. And while most of these DLCs are rather small updates and certainly not expansion content, the next-gen improvements are larger with a 50GB update.
