Daredevil: Born Again Details and Target Premiere Date Revealed

The Man Without Fear is going to sit on the shelf for a while. A Twitter account named Scarlet Witch Updates has gotten ahold of a filing for Daredevil: Born Again from the U.S. Copyright Office’s Public Records System that reveals details about the series, including the first episode’s synopsis and estimated air date. (This comes via Bounding Into Comics.) The approximate air date, which is listed as the “date of publication,” is January 2025. This makes sense; production was halted, with the first episode not expected to complete filming until this December. The synopsis says that in the season premiere, viewers will be “reintroduced to the world of Daredevil,” which confirms that this will be a sequel and not some weird new version with the same actors. There are also cast listings, which shed some light on a few things.

Sandrine Holt, who was said to be Wilson Fisk’s love interest, is playing Vanessa Fisk, replacing original actress Ayelet Zurer. I like Sandrine Holt, but I don’t understand why they’re recasting the part because Zurer was great. The only reason I can think of is that she’s not available; otherwise, it’s a strange thing to do. Nikki M. James is playing Kirsten McDuffie, a romantic interest for Matt Murdock in the comics. McDuffie was created by Mark Waid, which confirms RazörFist’s fears that Waid’s run (which I’ve never read but is said to be much lighter than usual and heavy on comedy) is the inspiration for Born Again. Margarita Levieva is playing Heather Glenn, another love interest of Matt’s, though she’s an older character from before the Waid run. Genneya Walton is playing someone named BB Urich, who is presumed to be a relative of Ben Urich. Urich, a character from the comics, was killed in the first season of Daredevil, so BB appears to be his replacement. Finally, Jon Bernthal is confirmed to be in the first episode as the Punisher. As with most of the Daredevil: Born Again news, I like parts of it and don’t like other parts of it (Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson are nowhere to be found), but even the stuff I’m initially positive about is soured by the thought of what the MCU has become recently, which this will likely resemble.
