Daredevil Stuntman Reveals Lost Hallway Fight Scene

You think you’re sufficiently bummed about Daredevil being on Disney+? It’s about to get worse. The website Average Being interviewed stuntman Chris Brewster, who was Charlie Cox’s stunt double on Daredevil, and amid some insights into the job of a stuntman, he revealed something about a planned fourth season on Netflix:

“Before they canceled Daredevil, the stunt team and I created the most epic single-shot hallway fight in history. We were ready to absolutely blow the first three ‘oners’ away with this one. It was going to be an absolutely epic work of art. We designed the most creative texas switches, the most dynamic character-driven choreography, and the most innovative camera work any of us have ever imagined. I still have the blueprints, notes, and references. Hopefully, we get the chance to put it on screen someday.”

How do you like them apples? It isn’t all that surprising – each season of Daredevil featured an incredible hallway fight sequence, each more elaborate than the last, all of them feeling essential to the story and saying something about Matt Murdock’s character. They were a series highlight, and everyone loved them; they’re so iconic that She-Hulk lampooned them to put Matt in his place (because it was Jen’s show, as they were so fond of reminding us before introducing that week’s popular guest star). And Brewster’s enthusiasm several years later is palpable; sure, the guy loves his craft, but his description gets the pulse pounding, imagining what they would put Daredevil through in the fourth season.

Well, we’ve got a fourth season (kinda sorta) on the way now, but what are the odds this scene – which Brewster says he has all the material to create – is going to be in it? It’s possible; Brewster isn’t officially a part of Born Again, but he could be. They’re still putting it together, and it won’t arrive on Disney+ till 2024. Brewster has worked in the MCU before in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Loki, so he may be brought on, if only for his familiarity with Charlie Cox. On the other hand, it looks like they’re going in a different direction with Born Again rather than simply continuing the Netflix series, despite having Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin back, because Marvel is allergic to giving people what they want at the moment. (Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson’s Karen Page and Foggy Nelson probably won’t be around, but Echo is on board, and She-Hulk may show up; doesn’t that have you itching to see the show?) None of the creatives from the Netflix series are back, but they got two guys whose most significant credit is writing some episodes of Covert Affairs. And then there’s… you know… the rest of Marvel’s Disney+ output. I’m going to say the chances of this making it to the screen aren’t high.

Of course, this is madness. Making Born Again the fourth season of an amazing and beloved show is a layup, and Marvel desperately needs something close to universally liked right now, especially on Disney+ (at least the movies had Spider-Man: No Way Home). But they’re determined to shove unwanted “entertainment” down their viewers’ throats, and they probably think the quality doesn’t matter because people are so psyched to see Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio again. But good God, doesn’t something have to give sooner or later? I’m sure they’ll find a way to call people racists for disliking a show about an Irish Catholic American played by a white Englishman, but as we’ve seen recently, that tactic isn’t working. And if they ruin Daredevil, I have a feeling the fans aren’t going to forgive them.
