Dave Filoni Confirms Ahsoka Season 2 and The Mandalorian and Grogu Wrapping

While it seems shaky from time to time, we now have confirmation that there’s more Star Wars ahead; that’s more a threat than a promise nowadays, but one way or another, it’s coming. While on the red carpet for the Skeleton Crew premiere, Lucasfilm’s chief creative officer, Dave Filoni, spoke with entertainment media outlet Extra. In the interview, Filoni confirmed that The Mandalorian and Grogu, the upcoming movie based on the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, has wrapped filming. He also gleefully revealed that season 2 of Ahsoka is definitely happening, and he’s working on it right now, going so far as to say it’s his “next thing.” Filoni was a writer and executive producer of the animated Star Wars series The Clone Wars, Rebels, The Bad Batch, Tales of the Jedi, and Tales of the Empire, as well as the live-action Star Wars shows The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka, and the executive producer of Skeleton Crew. The Mandalorian and Grogu, which is directed by FIloni’s Mandalorian co-producer, Jon Favreau, is scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 22, 2026. You can see Dave Filoni’s comments below:

The Mandalorian and Grogu seems like it must be well ahead of schedule if it’s already done shooting. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing; the way things go these days, it’s better for them to leave a significant amount of time for post-production and the usual reshoots. It’s a safe bet The Mandalorian and Grogu will have a lot of CGI to be added in post, and they’ve certainly got enough time to make it look better than most computer-generated effects do nowadays. Part of me wonders if maybe the film will be moved up since it’s so far along; there’s nothing theatrical from Lucasfilm scheduled for 2025, as far as I know. Then again, the Rey movie (New Jedi Order, maybe) was recently removed from the 2026 schedule, so maybe The Mandalorian and Grogu will have to stay where it is. Whatever happens, I suspect this movie is Disney’s attempt to see if Star Wars is still viable as a film franchise, as well as whether The Mandalorian is still popular enough to get a fourth season – in other words, whether that awful third season (and the boneheaded storytelling decisions around it, like rushing Baby Yoda’s storyline and putting it in The Book of Boba Fett) ruined the one big Star Wars win they had.

As for Ahsoka season 2… ugh. Against my better judgment (meaning in the hopes that Rosario Dawson would look hot), I watched the first season; it was awful. That being the case, this isn’t a huge deal for me, as there’s no way I’m watching season 2, so it doesn’t matter much to me if it happens or not. And it isn’t like I’m desperate for Dave Filoni to focus his attention elsewhere; the only thing he’s been a part of that I’ve liked was the first couple of seasons of The Mandalorian, and I tend to attribute the better parts of that show to Jon Favreau, fairly or not. I started watching The Clone Wars, but when I got to the episode where Jar Jar Binks farted on C-3PO, I decided it wasn’t for me. Moreover, I’m of the opinion that Star Wars is effectively dead and way beyond saving, so whatever they choose to do to the corpse is immaterial. The people who still like it can have the charred remains they’ve decided are the franchise’s peak while the rest of us take solace in the amusing reality that there don’t seem to be enough of them to make any of the new shows successful.

Let us know what you think of The Mandalorian and Grogu’s production ending and Ahsoka season 2 being confirmed in the comments!

The Acolyte ruined and wrecked all respect I had for Dave Filoni. He isn’t the guy. I don’t even like looking at him now.
Elon has a huge opportunity to make a space for other creators to do rad stuff. Disney has had it. Snow White I think will turn into snowball, as in, it’s all downhill after it.

I think the video component of X may evolve into that as it goes along. Right now, you can upload YouTube-type videos, but eventually you’ll probably be able to put movies and shows on it. That’ll be a real game changer.
