Deadpool & Wolverine is currently saving Disney at the box office (temporarily, at least), and now, its titular heroes are trying to do the same for Disney Parks. Deadpool and his new friend Wolverine – although Logan may take issue with the term – are taking Disneyland by storm, making their presence known at Disney California Adventure. According to WDW News Today, the dynamic wish-they-weren’t-a-duo will be part of the “Avengers Assemble!” and “Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Dance Off!” presentations. But the best part is that the pair will have their own live show called “Story Time With Deadpool,” where the Merc With a Mouth reads from his book of fairy tales… and ropes a battle-ready Wolverine into the show. That was legit funny, and I laughed out loud a few times. I wasn’t sure how they’d make Deadpool work in a family-friendly environment like Disneyland, but they pulled it off. The adult-targeted jokes are mostly clean (outside of that first one about the Mickey ears, which teeters a bit), but they’re clever; he even gets a few digs in at Disney for the way it’s been handling its parks. This is one of Deadpool’s strengths as a marketing tool: he can allow a company to poke fun at itself without too much embarrassment because it’s part of his character, and that appeals to an audience that’s had some major gripes with, in this case, Disney. His Splash Mountain gag was great because we all know what a terrible move that was, and we love Deadpool even more for pointing it out. Sure, it’s a little disingenuous – he’s sticking it to the man while making money for that same man – but it’s fun, too, and maybe cathartic for parkgoers looking to have a good time again. Deadpool allows you to let your hair down, and that’s what Disney needs in all sectors of its company right now.
Aside from the shows, Deadpool will be available for meet-and-greets at Avengers Campus, where he will no doubt joke about Earth’s Mightiest Heroes not wanting him to join the team. He’ll also be at Walt Disney Studios Park in Disneyland Paris through September 15, 2024. (There’s no word on whether his appearances at Disneyland in California will be for a limited time or indefinite.) Wolverine has not been announced as a meet-and-greet character, but seeing as he’s one of the most popular superheroes of all time, Disney would be crazy not to include him. (Then again, these are the people who tore down the most popular theme park ride in the world and replaced it with something they can’t get to work properly.)

And there will, of course, be merchandise. There are hats, t-shirts, a hoodie, and a sweatshirt available at all Disney Parks worldwide or online at The Disney Store. I love the t-shirt where Deadpool put his head on the bodies of all the Avengers and Nick Fury. There’s also a Deadpool & Wolverine baseball cap with “Best Bubs” on it that’s exclusively available at The Collector’s Warehouse in Disneyland. And if you want to celebrate the new movie and its heroes while you eat, the Pym Test Kitchen in Disney California Adventure has a new Deadpool & Wolverine chimichanga. Priced at $13.99, this treat represents both heroes, as it’s Deadpool’s favorite food, and it’s got Wolverine claw marks on it. WDW News Today reviewed the new dish and thinks it’s great.

This is a smart move on Disney’s part. Deadpool & Wolverine is poised to be a massive hit, and it’s the perfect opportunity for the parks to draw in some more visitors. At the very least, they must be relieved to finally have merchandise for a new property that may actually sell.
