It looks like Marvel has finally come to their senses, at least to a certain extent. In a blog post on Insneider exclusive to his paying subscribers, Jeff Sneider says that Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson will return as Karen Page and Foggy Nelson for Daredevil: Born Again. Previously, the two were not set to feature in the Disney+ show, which brings back Charlie Cox as Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio as his arch-nemesis, the Kingpin. There were even rumors that the story would take place after Foggy’s murder. But a few months ago, Born Again was overhauled, with a new creative team brought in, and according to Sneider, part of the new vision is bringing back Matt Murdock’s supporting cast, who were vital components of the excellent Netflix series to which Born Again is a sequel.
I’m glad Karen and Foggy are coming back – and, unlike Vanessa Fisk, they’ll be played by the same actors – but it’s maddening that it took a complete restructuring of the show to make it happen. Marvel had a winner gift-wrapped for them in Daredevil, and they were determined to do everything they could to ruin it. It took massive fan backlash and a string of failures to convince them they couldn’t do whatever ridiculous nonsense they wanted and expect people to show up for their increasingly lousy product. So, this is definitely a step in the right direction, although I’m not going to celebrate too much yet. I’ve seen Hawkeye and Echo; I know what these people have done to the Kingpin. So far, Daredevil has remained mostly unscathed, but I don’t trust Marvel anymore. It’s nice that they’re scrapping their original plans, but is the new version of Born Again going to be better? It would’ve instilled more confidence if they rehired any of the creatives behind the Netflix show; just pick a season and bring back that showrunner. So, I’m still going to wait for proof that Daredevil: Born Again is good before I’m too relieved, but this is a positive sign.
