El Muerto Pulled From Sony’s Slate

Deadline reports that Sony has removed El Muerto from its 2024 release schedule. The Spider-Man spinoff would have seen Bad Bunny star as the son of a legendary luchador fighter who inherits supernatural powers. El Muerto is being directed by Jonás Cuarón, son of famed filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón of Children of Men, Gravity, and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. The film is apparently still in production, but Bunny’s schedule has made a date impossible to set. Also a factor is the ongoing writers’ strike that has shut down so many Hollywood productions of late. Originally, El Muerto was to be released on January 12, 2024, but it has been replaced with The Book of Clarence, which has been pushed back from September 22, 2023. The latter date will now be filled by Dumb Money, a movie about the GameStop stock boom and its impact on Wall Street directed by Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya, Cruella) and starring Paul Dano, Sebastian Stan, and Pete Davidson.
