Extraction Director Sam Hargrave Signs on for Kill Them All

Extraction was only the beginning. Deadline reports that Sam Hargrave, who directed the Netflix action extravaganza starring Chris Hemsworth (and its sequel), has signed on to direct the upcoming action film Kill Them All. An adaptation of a Kickstarter-funded graphic novel from Kyle M. Starks, Kill Them All follows a female assassin who discovers she’s been marked for death by the criminal organization that employs her and teams up with an ex-cop to make her way through their headquarters slaughtering them. No actors have been cast yet, but the script will be written by James Coyne, whose writing credits include two movies from a decade ago no one’s ever heard of and a short film.

It amazes me that it’s taken this long for Sam Hargrave to line up another action movie. There was enough time between Extraction movies that he could have done something else. The only other production he has on deck is the first episode of an Apple TV+ show called The Last Frontier. Hargrave is part of this new generation of action directors who were once stuntmen and stunt coordinators, so they know how to stage and execute their action sequences. Extraction and Extraction 2 look amazing, and they’re fun, hard-hitting action films that understand what makes the genre so cool even beyond the action. I’m excited to see him bring that sensibility to something else (not that I want him to stop making Extraction movies, but he deserves to have lots of plates spinning). The movie sounds like fun, something in the vein of The Raid or Dredd. The description of the graphic novel says that it’s intended to be a throwback to 90s action movies, which suits me just fine, and Hargrave is the perfect guy to capture that sensibility. Deadline doesn’t give a time frame for Kill Them All, so it’s likely a ways off, but I’m very interested.
