Genneya Walton Officially Cast in Daredevil: Born Again

The Man Without Fear is growing his support stable. Deadline reports that Genneya Walton has been cast in Daredevil: Born Again, the Disney+ revival of the Netflix series Daredevil. Walton’s role hasn’t been revealed, but Deadline says she’s playing “a young journalist with connections to a character from the original series.” This confirms a copyright filing from October that said she would be playing BB Urich, whom scooper CanWeGetSomeToast said was the niece of Ben Urich, who was portrayed by Vondie Curtis-Hall in season 1 of Daredevil. Daredevil: Born Again will see the return of Charlie Cox as Daredevil, as well as Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Eldon Henson as Foggy Nelson, Vincent D’Onofrio as the Kingpin, Wilson Bethel as Bullseye, and Jon Bernthal as the Punisher. It is currently filming in New York City.

It’s strange that this was reported months ago but only confirmed now. My best guess is that she’s been called back to the set because they’re re-shooting the series now that they realize they have to give fans what they want, at least to a certain degree. Originally, Karen functioned as Ben Urich’s protégé, but now that she’s back working with Matt and Foggy, maybe they need a new character to fill that role. This makes me think of something RazörFist said about the show: they made a mistake killing off Ben Urich and are now scrambling to have someone take his place. Karen’s mentor after Ben died was his former boss, played by Geoffrey Cantor, and he was fine as a supporting player for Karen, but they probably want someone a little more interesting in the main reporter role. As for Genneya Walton, I’ve never seen her act in anything, so I have no opinion of her casting; like the rest of Daredevil: Born Again, I hope she’s good, and I hope the show measures up to its excellent predecessor.

Looks to me like Disney is in “quick, bring in everyone that made it great!” mode, and less in line with introducing anyone new and exciting. Keep jingling them keys, D-bags.

Yeah, and nowadays I’m always worried about what they’re going to do to the old characters, because they can’t help themselves anymore.
