As proof that literally everything will eventually be remade or resurrected, a sequel to Good Burger is on the way from Nickelodeon, and today saw the first trailer. If you’ve never heard of Good Burger, you’re fine living the rest of your life in peace, but if you’re interested, it was a 1997 movie based on a sketch from a comedy show called All That that aired on Nickelodeon. Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell played hapless workers at the eponymous fast food restaurant, with alleged hilarity ensuing. (The joke was that Kel was an idiot, but he had a scratchy voice, so the things he said were kind of funny if you were still into Duck, Duck, Goose.) Good Burger 2 appears to be more of the same, with Kenan and Kel returning as the main characters. Good Burger 2 will stream on Paramount+ starting in November of 2023, and you can see the trailer below:
Geez, they’re even bringing back “We’re All Dudes,” the… hit… song… from the first one. All joking aside, I have nothing against Good Burger; it’s a good-natured comedy for kids. It’s just not for me, and I was too old for it when it came out, so I don’t have any nostalgia for it either. I wonder if anyone does; Good Burger made $23.7 million at the box office, which may have allowed it to turn a tiny profit since it was super cheap to make (Kenan and Kel didn’t come with hefty price tags back then; I think Kel might actually be cheaper now), but it’s hard to believe there’s a big demand for more of it. That’s probably why it’s going straight to Paramount+ – a lot of the kids who watched Good Burger in the 90s are parents now, and maybe they’ll plop their kids down for some safe fun with Kenan and Kel when they see it’s being revived. It’s likely the best they could hope for from an IP most probably forgot was ever a thing.
Thank you very much!
Yeah, there are so many of them now, it’s hard to justify subscribing to another. And funnily enough, I find a lot of the best stuff on the free ones, like Tubi and Pluto.
Another beautifully written piece. Simple, respectable, unbiased.
Good burger came out when I was 7, 2nd grade, watched it in class when it came out on VHS…. I’m old man, I won’t be going to Paramount Plus any time soon and let’s be real, after they r*ped Halo fans over the coals, they won’t be getting one red cent of my money.
Not worth, not excited, won’t be spending my money on bad streaming services.
