Winter has come for Bruce Wayne. Deadline reports that Game of Thrones star Iain Glen has been cast in the recurring role of Batman’s alter ego for season 2 of Titans. Over the last year or so, I’ve noticed more of a willingness to allow the Bat Family proper to appear on television. Yes, we’ve had Gotham for the last five years, but it wasn’t until last year’s CW crossover “Elseworlds” where they not only said the word “Batman” but spoke of the character with a reverence that had been uncommon on TV arguably since the days of the 60s TV show.
I’m incredibly excited about this news. Ever since it premiered in 2011, the HBO phenom Game of Thrones has served as a showcase for a myriad of character actors and relative unknowns. Iain Glen, who was once known for his turn as Resident Evil’s Tyrant and the Jack Taylor mystery series, is no exception to this. I’ve often wondered what some of these actors would do once the show was over, so to have this casting come to light just as the fantasy epic’s final season premieres feels very poetic and leaves me feeling hopeful for Glen’s future on-screen work. While I hoped he would one day take the role of Professor X when the time came to bring the X-Men back to the screen (a character his fellow Game of Thrones alum Harry Lloyd will portray in the final season of Legion), I have to admit that, as a diehard DC fan, I can’t wait to see what Iain Glen will bring to everyone’s favorite billionaire when Titans season 2 comes to DC Universe.
