Inside Out 2 is Pixar’s Highest-Grossing Movie Ever

Pixar’s Inside Out 2 has now outgrossed Incredibles 2 to become the studio’s top earner of all time. Domestically, the sequel to Pete Docter’s introspective, emotional journey has earned $543.5 million, pulling in $1.25 billion globally. For reference, in 2018, Incredibles 2 shattered the studio’s records at $1.24 billion globally. This also places Inside Out 2 at #4 out of the top-grossing animated movies ever, following Frozen ($1.29 billion), The Super Mario Bros. Movie ($1.36 billion), and Frozen II ($1.45 billion). Disney CEO Bob Iger had previously leaned into sequels to save his dying studios, and this success will no doubt encourage more such laziness and greed.

I’m tired, y’all. I’m just so tired of news like this. I used to get excited for Pixar news, especially if they were doing well. But I didn’t like this movie, and more importantly, I think it was unnecessary. It was a lesser copy of the first Inside Out, as are all Pixar sequels besides Toy Story 2, Cars 3, and Monsters University (the last of which I don’t like, but it’s not a copy of Monsters, Inc.). I should be numb to news like this, but it worries me because it means more sequels than we thought will be coming now. And it was already a lot; Iger already announced Moana 2, Zootopia 2, Frozen III, and Toy Story 5. I just miss Pixar’s creative boom in the 90s and 2000s, but those days are long over.
