In a Variety article that’s mainly about Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny director James Mangold, Kathleen Kennedy remarked that it’s “entirely possible” that a Helena Shaw (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) Indiana Jones spinoff movie could follow Dial of Destiny. She later clarified, “we’re not having any of those conversations right now. We’re just focused on finishing this with Harrison.” James Mangold dismissed the idea of directing that potential film by saying, “I’m not interested… I refuse. I just can’t do it.”
None of this is all that surprising, especially given who’s saying it. However, it does sound like a joke. This movie isn’t even out yet, and people have already widely rejected Waller-Bridge’s character. Honestly, the trailers aren’t doing this film any favors, and that’s aside from the fact that The Last Crusade should have been the last movie anyway. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is also tracking to be a massive bomb for Disney and Lucasfilm, so the prospects of sinking more money into the franchise without even the benefit of Indy himself look nil right now.
