In a recent episode of The Convor Call, Kevin Kiner divulged that Lucasfilm is working on a new animated Star Wars project. Kiner has composed the musical scores for The Clone Wars, Rebels, and The Bad Batch, as well as non-Star Wars projects like Doom Patrol. As is to be expected, Kiner couldn’t say much about the not-yet-announced property. Check out his statement here:
“You know, we are working on a new project. It’s an animated project. It’s a Star Wars project. And that’s all we can say. It’s really, really frikkin’ great… To the point where Lucasfilm and Disney are giving us full orchestra for every episode… It’s a very special project, some great, great people are involved, and we’re really privileged to be part of that one. And I probably said too much already.”
Despite the lack of details, this really excites me. I make no secret of my love for Kevin Kiner’s work; the way he utilized musical cues in The Clone Wars alone earned him legend status in my book. Star Wars animation is also one of my favorite aspects of the franchise, and Kiner has notably only worked on the good animated shows. I can only assume we’ll get a formal announcement from Lucasfilm soon if Kiner is already hard at work, but they have been somewhat unpredictable with the flow of news lately. Rumors are already swirling about what the potential series or movie could be about, with some people hoping for additional Clone Wars episodes. I find that extremely unlikely; the show has been resurrected twice already, and the Siege of Mandalore felt like a pretty conclusive ending. I don’t imagine them bringing the series back again for any reason, and while I would have loved to see some of the scrapped arcs, there’s no need. I do think it’s probably a series, but I would be interested in seeing another film scored by Kiner after the Clone Wars pilot movie.
What do you make of Kiner’s comments? What type of Star Wars story do you want to see in animation next? Let us know in the comments.
